    Star san storage

Buy some pH strips, and check every few weeks (or just before you brew again). Starsan sanitizes by having a pH of 3 or less. If it goes over 3, ad a bit more in and mix. I keep a keg filled with per-mixed starsan the same way as you're thinking of using a bucket. It keeps very well.

    Home brewing in Japan

Brendan, what do you mean? Homebrewing is completely legal in Japan, as long as it is under 1% alcohol :ban: I mix all of my "beer" with gut-rot-cheap-ass Shochu from the local discount store and drink it like a Hoppy :drunk: Which I assume everyone commenting on this board does as well :p

    Home brewing in Japan

I've heard of people making a stir bar out of tubing, but that usually is a last resort. You can buy lab grade ones here for 2-300 yen. http://www.tech-jam.com/science-equipment/stir/index.phtml This is where I got mine, and you can even boil then in the starter wort to make sure they're...

    Keg as a Bottling Bucket?

jamest22 I think you'll be fine. That is exactly how I used to prime using a bottling bucket, and have never had a problem with inconsistent carbonation. :)

    Home brewing in Japan

:drunk: You have my full attention...:rockin: A bit of google-fu brought me to their web page, but with no prices... have you contacted them before WhoZit? I'm almost out of base malt and their jouzouyou malt (which I imagine is a normal US style 2row) and might be interested in a bag if the...

    Home brewing in Japan

Great thread! I heard about this thread from a facebook post on freezing yeast. I've been homebrewing in Japan, (Kashiwa in Chiba prefecture) for a few years now. Another great place for cheap supplies is Yahoo Auctions- that's where I was able to source my mashtun (cooler), a glass carboy...

    Greetings from Chiba Japan!

:drunk:Wow, I just realised all the responces that I got. Thanks everyone! As for everyone's questions (better late than never, I guess!) Homebrewing is still very minor here. Some hardware stores will sell the Blackrock kits, but it is relatively easy to get grain and hops online from a...

    Brewing in Japan

Kiuchi (aka Hitachino Nest is in Ibaraki prefecture. If you take the Fresh Hitachi high-speed train out of Ueno in Tokyo it'll take about an hour 45 to get there. Looks like fun, but is more expensive than craft beer here and if you have a decent homebrew setup, I don't think there is much...

    First 10 gallon batch

Just as Piratwolf says! I'd just add that depending on your system be prepared to be lugging twice the weight! Hop utilization doesn't change until 20gal so you're good there. Enjoy your brewday and enjoy twice the beer!!!

    Greetings from Chiba Japan!

Hi everyone. I've been brewing and lurking here on HBT for a few years now, but I decided it was finally time to give something back and upgraded to premium membership. I also figured it this was as good a time as any to officially introduce myself....sooo... Hi! :mug:

    rubber stopper imparting bad flavor?

I've never made wine, but I think I know exactly what you mean by the rubber stopper smell- and just recently had been having this problem with some of my beers. I've gotten advice from possible oxidation, to infection, to using a rubber stopper without soaking it in something first. And...

Autumn Seasonal Beer Richard's Pumpkin Ale

Great to see more homebrewers in Japan! I did use Japanese kabocha (1.6kg after peeling 4 bags of frozen cubes). As for how it turned out, I tried one last week and it made me ultra nostalgic for pumpkin pie! It took almost two months after bottling to mellow out, and I got a lot of off-flavors...
