Want To Start A Solera - Moving In Near Future

Thanks for the input all. I'm gonna go ahead and start it now and move it when the time comes. Time to start planning.

Want To Start A Solera - Moving In Near Future

I have a Sanke Keg that I'd like to use to start a single vessel Solera. However, we're planning on moving sometime in the next 4-6 months. I'd really like to get the solera started now, especially because it would be cool to be able to pull from it shortly moving into the new place. However...

5-Tap Kegerator DIY using Tap-A-Draft bottles and a corny keg!

Awesome! I've been wanting to do pretty much exactly that for a while now. Any chance you took pictures along the way? Would love to see a step by step, especially of the cap modification. I'm on a pretty tight budget, did the luer lock option for the cap mod work or were there lots of problems...

    TapIt Cap on a Tap-A-Draft????

Bump. I just got a tap a draft system and would like to hook them up to a co2 tank and regulator. I've seen some guides for making a cap that can do this, but if you add up the cost of parts and labor (my time is valuable to me) it seems the tap it cap may be an easier an cost comparable...

    $3.43 Tap-a-Draft conversion

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I have a tap a draft system on the way, and this is pretty much exactly what I want to do. Are you still happy with this set up. If you were starting over from scratch, would you do any of it differently? This is the only thread I've seen where someone...

    Saison Cottage House Saison

I'm hoping to brew this next weekend. I'm assuming you used Sorachi Ace just because you had it laying around. I'm thinking it may play well with the yeast as a late hop, or even dry hop addition. Any thoughts?

    Imperial Stout Double-W Imperial Stout

For anyone who may have partigyled this, did you cap the second beer with anything? How did it turn out?

weird after taste - is my beer oxidized?

I don't remember off the top of my head, and don't have my notes with me, but it was almost entirely MO with a tiny but of roasted barley. I boiled about a gallon of the wort down to about a pint to caramelize it (it was a scotch ale).

weird after taste - is my beer oxidized?

I brewed a partigyle a while back. The small beer was bottled at three Weeks and tastes fine. The bigger beer bulk aged in a carboy for two months. I bottled it today. There was no sign of an infection but there was a bad after taste. I thought it tasted kind of like dirt, the wife thought it...

Day after Christmas Eve old ale

I plan on brewing this next Monday, any thoughts on partigyling this bad boy?

    Partigyle Question

So, sounds like using them for late additions should be a go, but using them for bittering probably wouldn't work.

    Partigyle Question

I've done a couple partigyle's now, and love being able to get two batches done at once. I've been wanting to make some good session beers, and figure a partigyle would be a great way to accomplish this. My question: I know it would be difficult to calculate IBU's, but would there be any...

    Split Batch SMaSH expirement

I was planning on Marris Otter for the English. Not sure about American. What do people typically use for something like that? Maybe I should just skip the smash idea for American and add a little crystal malt? I probably should have been more clear in my original post. I want to do this two...

    Split Batch SMaSH expirement

I've been brewing for a little over a year now. Mostly brewing other people's recipes. My goal for the next year is to start formulating my own recipes. Part of doing this will be learning how each aspect of the beer effects the final product. So I'm thinking I want to do a SMaSH split batch...

Day after Christmas Eve old ale

I'll be brewing this up after Christmas to be consumed and given as gifts next year. Seems to me, this could pretty easily be turned into a partigyle... anyone tried it, or have any thoughts? I was thinking the second runnings could just make a simple pale ale or something.

    Bottling my barleywine

So I'm getting ready to bottle my first attempt at an english barleywine. It's been bulk aging for about three months. When I bottle, will I need to add some fresh yeast to make sure it will carbonate? Will this affect the flavor? I have some nottingham laying around that I could use. I also...

Terrible Efficiency, how to fix low gravity

I got mine from my LHBS... Apparently it's not uncommon to get a bad crush when using wheat though

Terrible Efficiency, how to fix low gravity

Hindsight is 20-20. I could tell I was a bit over, but not that much

Terrible Efficiency, how to fix low gravity

It was a full boil... I think it was a combination of factors: First time using wheat, didn't get a good crush. And not an aggressive enough boil... I think I ended up with somewhere around 6+ gallons instead of the 5.5 that I had planned on.
