Cleaning kegs/lines after ~5 years idle

Greetings HBT, Have finally gotten back into homebrewing after a very long hiatus. Had some kegs with beer that I left in there for the last five years as well as beer that has been in the liquid lines. Yes, yes, I know I should have dumped him and filled them with star sign or something five...

    Lag time or cooked mash?

Yeah, beer went nuts when I got home that night. Time to build a stirplate.

    Lag time or cooked mash?

Was brewing last night and had one of those 'brewsaster' days. Ended up mashing in too hot and the mash was at 175°F - I added some ice cold water and dropped the temp down to 156°F within 5 minutes or so. Fast forward 12 hours and there is no activity in the fermenter. I hit the wort with...

Nevada Forum: Favorite brewery/brewpub/gastropub in the Silver State

Ain't that the truth... and right after I made beer jedi, too! Pigeon Head is good, I haven't been super impressed by Stony Head or UnderTheRose... some of their stuff is good, a lot is only so-so. St. James is bottling their beers now, so far I've liked all of them except the Plum 'lambic'.

Secondary regulators, high pressure ports and valves

Looking to upgrade the 2-way manifold in my kegerator so I can have different service pressures for each keg. Still up in the air in terms of brand (Taprite vs MM) but I've seen some people saying they have installed check valves in the high pressure outlet - it looks like by doing this I...

3" ACU metal fab tower and shanks

They said they use the same replacement parts (besides the actual shanks depending on brass/chrome/SS) for all the elbow shanks, strange that only that particular model doesn't list the replacement parts. Ordered two of the ones you linked to, the spin-stop ones require a custom tower with...

    Tropical rye IPA

I had thought about Brett Trois but plan on kegging and don't want to deal with the hassle of having a 2nd set of lines for it... but maybe if I decide to bottle I'll do that for Batch 2.

    Tropical rye IPA

Hey everyone, putting together a tropical rye IPA - I'm aiming for something that is a fruit bomb with a hint of spice from some habanero/scotch bonnet peppers, and then taking it to 11 with actual mango and apricot puree in secondary. Here's my recipe as of now: Batch Size: 5 gal IBU: 68...

3" ACU metal fab tower and shanks

Thanks. Do you know if all of their shanks use the same flanges? I see they have a spin-stop version as well.

    American Sour Beer – Book!

I'm probably going to attempt a 100% Brett cider in the next couple of weeks, I imagine that might be a valid strategy as well... although not sure how much character I'll get, it's worth a try.

3" ACU metal fab tower and shanks

Anyone have a good source for SS elbow shanks for these (I know a few others on here have bought them)? I bought a couple off of kegconnection but the flange/beauty ring doesn't match the radius of the tower's outside diameter so there's an air gap and the whole assembly wobbles.

    American Sour Beer – Book!

Well, post got eaten - thanks Safari. Anyway... I'm excited, have been since you first said you were writing a book. I've had to figure out everything through interviews, emails to brewers (you included!), and guesswork in the 3+ years I've been brewing sours. Pre-ordered, obviously... I may...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

Brewed 6 gallons of an amped-up version of the traditional recipe (SG 1.130) in February, and bottled it two weeks ago. It's a tad flat (duh!) but is tasting fantastic. The brandy barrel pairs nicely with the flavors as well.

    Bottle conditioning huge beers?

Getting ready to bottle a ~16% quad tomorrow - most yeast have an alcohol tolerance of 14% at best, save a few champagne/distiller yeast strains. Anyone have suggestions on strains to add with priming sugar? Thanks.

iso: Bruery christmas, cuir and coton. ft:list

My two cents: I have all of the anniversary beers and all the Christmas beers (except PiaPT) so I know how difficult it is to track them down. I was lucky and bought most of them through RS. You need to be prepared to offer up a significant amount of your cellar for Partridge in a Pear Tree -...

    tap tower flanges?

Recently bought a two-tap tower from acumetalfab.com - it's amazing - nice thick walls (probably 1.5-2mm thick). Well, the shank I took off the tower that came with the kegerator, the flange doesn't quite match the radius of this new tower. Anyone know where I can get stainless flanges...
