This is a Warning: Go easy on the Blackstrap molasses

So I just kegged up a beer I made ~2 months ago. I had a taste and I used WAY TOO MUCH blackstrap molasses. That's all I get in the aroma and taste. It retained the same flavors it has when not fermented and would be a unique and nice flavor if used in moderation. It is not like me to be so...

Broken A/C and high temp conditioning

So my A/C broke on Friday and the temp in my house climbed to 85 on Sunday before it was fixed. The temp was back down to 70 by Sunday night but I'm a little concerned about the 4 batches I have in progress at various stages. My normal fermentation regime is to ferment in a small wine fridge...

    Help me Oak this Ale

I made a brown ale on 2/11 OG=1.070 I pitched a decanted 2.4L stir plated starter. I fermented at 66 for a few days then moved it to the closet (so the APA could go in the ferm fridge.) where it has been slowly raising up to 69. it seems to be slowing down so now is the time to really figure...

6 Gallon PET carboy by the Vintage Shop

I just received my 23L (6 gallon) PET carboy made by the Vintage shop and I'm really impressed. I ordered it from Brewmaster's warehouse and remember it being maybe a buck or two cheaper than a 6 gallon better bottle. First off it has no horizontal ribs for sediment to settle, which is not that...

good idea for dry hopping and oaking in keg?

Has anyone ever used a magnet with a keeper on the top of the corny lid to hang a hop bag or oak cubes? It seems like this would be nice as you would not have to alter any equipment. You could taste it daily from the tap and when you want to remove you bag you just pop the lid and pull the...

Tack a SS loop/washer on keg lid, Tie on Dry Hops..?

Like the title, has anyone tack welded a SS loop or washer to the bottom of a keg lid so you could tie on dry hops or oak in a bag and easly remove when you are ready? It seems pretty easy and useful. I'm going to look into doing this to all my keg lids.

Can I get some critique on this IPA recipe

Ok, so this would be my second IPA. The first I made with my brother and I didn't have any input on the recipe because my brother called from the LHBS and asked what I wanted for my birthday. It had 12 lbs Czech pils malt for the base and 1 lb. of crystal 60. It had 2 oz of 15.8% warrior(~ 131...

    Yeast starter: Decanting and Fremax

Doing my first yeast starter tonight, and I have some questions. I got my numbers from the Mr. Malty yeast pitching rate calculator. I'm doing a 1.6 liter; 1.040 starter for a 6 gal, OG 1.066 Brown ale I'm doing this weekend. I will be using a stir plate and decanting before I pitch. I think I...
