    Keggle Mash tun

38-40 lbs here. my false bottom sits right at the curve of the bottom of the keg. so its 15 inches in diameter. i did 11 gallons of an imperial stout and got an og of 1.097. would have been higher if it were just a ten gallon batch.

    Stout Bottling / Nitrogen

i was always under the impression that the ball in the guiness bottles was charged with nitrogen. and when you pop the top off the bottle, it triggers the nitrogen to be released into the beer.

How To Build A Hop Spider To Filter Hops From Your Wort

just a heads up; i made one and used a fine mesh baggie that i got from midwestsupplies.com as the strainer and it killed an ipa of mine. came out like a pale ale. oh well. ive stopped using it. its mostly just a novelty anyways. all that hop trub either gets stuck at the bottom of your kettle...

Southern California Brewers, where do you get your gear?

gear like kettles, fittings, etc? keg donations from friends and a trip to marshalls industrial supply will take care of everything you need for the fittings. grain and hops? hops i started ordering from hopsdirect because hops at homebrewmart are way overpriced. grains, usually...

    30g Plastic Conical "Build"

though this ad on craigslist will probably expire soon, take a look at this soda fridge. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/app/2206326673.html this is what im talking about. it LOOKS like it'd fit your set up. but it'd be better to get one that twice as big as that one. you know, sliding...

    30g Plastic Conical "Build"

have you looked for liquor stores/grocery stores that are getting rid of soda fridges? you know, the kind that you slide the door open and grab a bottle of coke from. Hess brewery in sd does that with their conicals. i am unaware of the size of their conicals but i can assure you they are much...

My First BIG Stout & Questions

i made a similar stout on the 8th of jan that i pitched onto yeast cake. OG was 1.095 and after two weeks it had gone down to 1.010 so i racked to a secondary. i plan on leaving it there for AT LEAST another two months. i think 3 months is a good amount of aging before racking it to the keg.

What to do with toilet braid hose after getting false bottom?

this is a fair question. i made the switch from braid to false bottom. my clarity suffered. as much as i recirculate, i still cant get the first runnings crystal clear. and at the end of syphoning off my first runnings, i start sucking grains through. i am contemplating putting a small braid on...

    Flow rate on batch sparge

the logic on siphoning slowly makes perfect sense. it takes time to let the water drain through the grain to the bottom of the keggle. i have a sort of off topic question regarding vourlaffing and slow siphoning.... i can get my wort to run clear after vourlaffing a few gallons constantly. but...
