    Aging barley wine in carboy

I have a barley wine that has been in the carboy for almost 2.5 years. I tasted it about 6 months ago and it tasted fine. Just wondering if this is way too long without being bottled or if it will be fine. Just haven't made time to get it bottled, plus my jugs are full of pumpkin ale.:)

Heat up the mash in a cooler?

I had this same question a few months ago, if you decide to do a mashout, subtract the amount of water for the mashout from your sparge water, that was unclear to me before talking to the pros.

need experinced brewers input before i start my first brew this week

I forgot to answer about the starter. I use a flask and a stir plate, the flask has another name, but i cant spell it!:mug: When i first made starters i would use a growler. Boil water and dme in a sauce pan, pour into a sanitized growler, with sanitized funnel, then set in an ice bath...

need experinced brewers input before i start my first brew this week

Where are you getting your kit from? If its a good kit and has good instructions, i would just follow the recipe. Get your first brew under your belt, and get comfortable with the steps and process. Step 1 sanitation, step 2 sanitation, step 3 sanitation, you get the point. My first couple...

Sierra Nevada Tumbler Clone - Critique

Brewed this 3 nights ago, my OG was higher than estimated in first post, 1.065. I followed exact recipe, wort was around 70 when i measured. First AG that went smooth, thanks to a screen in my tun, opposed to the false bottom i was using. I just finished drinking one of my 2nd AG batch...
