Thanks guys.. All of this talk is making me want to brew again.. Too bad I can't drink beer anymore.. for now, I hope. I might try a batch of cider in the near future. However, I can only drink a half bottle of cider anyway.. My hops are still in the vacuum sealed bag they came in.. So...

    Storing Brewing Equipment In Garage

Thanks for responses. That makes me feel better.. BTW - I only use food grade equipment or equipment made for brewing. I totally forgot that there tons of people who have their "lab" in their garage. Oh yeah.. The only ingredients I have is hops. They have been in my freezer for over a...

    Storing Brewing Equipment In Garage

Hey Everyone, I haven't been around, nor have I brewed in beer in about a year and half due to some health challenges that I've been dealing with. I always stored my buckets and the rest of my equipment inside my house, which reaches no higher than 76*. (I live in SoCal and also pump the...

    San Diego craft brewers

Pizza Port!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the one in Carlsbad. It's a pizza joint that brews their our beer. It is a very casual environment. Some people go there in shorts & t-shirt and others in a nice button down shirt. Some nights/days local sport teams have pizza parties there and some nights...

    What my wife says

Honey Do List??? Wow... My wife tried giving me the list one time. I handed it back and said something to the effect "I don't think so. I don't give you things to do. So, don't give me any." That was the first and last time she ever handed me a list. Now, we talk about what needs to be...

    Costco Beer?

I had the same experience when I stopped at their restaurant in Vegas last year. I was disappointed, maybe because I was expecting Pizza Port beer. Pizza Port ROCKS!! :rockin: E

    Storing Wort

Hmm. I guess it's pretty easy for me because I do extract. The only extra step I do is cover the pot and saran wrap it. At least you know now that's too much work for all grain. E

    Storing Wort

It should be ok. I usually break up my brewing into two days. I steep grains on the first day. Then I put the lid on the pot and wrap the top with saran wrap. A day or two later, I continue as usual. E

Pitching on top of yeast cake

You can leave the yeast cake in there. Leave a thin layer of beer on top of the cake, then put the lid back on. I do this with every other batch. I used to transfer it to another container and wash it, until one time I had no choice to leave it in the bucket. It's so much easier and...

Karl Strauss Wreck Alley Imperial Stout

I bought this today, without knowing anything about it. Holy Smokes!! Talk about an Awesome beer. The aroma is great and the taste is a mouthful. The coffee and the choc. malt compliment each other. I wonder how long they aged it. I'm a big time coffee drinker and can tell...

Are These Suds Soap or Starsan

Thanks. I think you're right. I've been trying to go over every cleaning step(in my head) and I'm 89% sure that I rinsed all the OxiClean off of everything. I was a little foggy while brewing last night (pain medication). I made a big mess in the kitchen. :smack: This morning, I put...

Online Beer Calculator Off - ??

I am doing 5 gallons for my final volume. Did you run it through Beer Smith? Your target abv's look close to what I used to get using Hopville. I'm on a Mac. From what I can remember, Beer Smith does not run on a Mac. Thanks, E

Online Beer Calculator Off - ??

After posting this thread, I clicked on the "Similar Threads" links at the bottom and found a few other online calculators. This one seems to be closer http://www.brewology101.com/AleAbacus# It's showing that it's 5% abv. Thanks E

Are These Suds Soap or Starsan

I'm a little concerned about these suds when I shook up my cooling wort. Does it look like suds from soap or Starsan? I usually get foam/bubbles when I aerate my wort. However, these are white and look like soap suds. It's possible that I didn't rinse all the soap off. Also, I know that the...

Online Beer Calculator Off - ??

Hey, I've been using Hopville's online calculator and it's not giving me correct ABV's. A year ago, I bought a kit from my LHBS. The label said it was 5.2% abv. I double checked it against Hopville and it almost spot on. Now, the calculator now says that it has a lower abv. Here...
