Freezer closed with equipment = mold

I left my freezer closed over the winter with my co2 tank, regulator and hose. It's not awful, but there's a little surface fuzz and black junk. I'm wondering if I can salvage my regulator somehow? The valve to the hose was closed. Can it be dunked or will that ruin it?

Ever tasted water sitting in Bevlex 200?

I made some carbonated water and noticed the water sitting in the Bevlex 200 is terrible. Obviously it makes me wonder about having beer sit in the beer line between pours. You may not notice it--I don't... but clearly the if the taste is getting in the water, it's getting in the beer. Is...

Bottle flat beer (to be bottle carbed) from keg?

I was thinking about going from the carboy to a keg with boiled/cooled DME in it and then bottling from that. My reasons would be 1) Less oxidation by purging the keg with co2 before transferring flat beer to it 2) Easier to mix DME into solution without oxidizing , see #1 3) Easier to...

    Stout recipe--specialty malts 10%?

I keep reading 10% max specialty grains for the grist bill (example http://byo.com/american-amber-pale-ale/item/1477-the-dark-secrets-of-stout) on a stout but just throwing together a quick recipe based on what I see around on NB and HBT, all of these seem to go way over 10%. So will this be...

Auto siphon to Ball lock liquid in...

I have the larger auto siphon from Northern Brewer. I want to siphon into a liquid in ball lock connector so I don't have to sanitize the outside of the siphon lines. The siphon uses 1/2" ID. I see that ball lock barb'ed connectors use 1/4" ID tubing. What's the best way for me to...

Steeping grains left on the "tea" for a while OK?

I heated up some water to 165F and dumped my steeping grains in. I put them in and covered the pot and turned the heat off. Due to some time constraints, I put them in the fridge once it had reached room temp and then a few days later I filtered the wort off the grains. Is this OK? Will I...

    Extract brews for these hops?

I picked up a pound each of these dried whole hops from a local organic farm. I'd like to do some all local/organic brews so here is what I have. The cascade is pretty versatile (if over-used), but not sure quite what to do with the others? Newport : 8.4 alpha / 6.5 beta Pride of...

Glycol or refrigerant based chiller for 1bbl

Is there a commercially made product to pitch 212F wort down to pitching temps that doesn't use water?

Would this work: single jug for ferment+bottle?

Hi there, I want to do a few 1 gallon batches and wanted to know if fermenting and then just pitching DME to bottle in the same growler would work without removing yeast sediment? Would the yeast negatively affect the flavor or would there be so much residual yeast that it would...

    Free for shipping

Not sure if this is the appropriate section. I got an XL white Otter Creek Brewing t-shirt and washed it once (hoping it would shrink... it didn't). https://www243.safesecureweb.com/longtrail/shop/categoryDetail.cfm?CategoryID=21&CatNm=Tees might be able to ship it for 3 dollars? 4 tops.

    No specialty grains with LME?

I was thinking of doing a 8.5# LME (4.25 and 4.25 late edition). It is Briess organic pale ME. I'm trying to make something that is basically in between a PA and IPA. Beer Smith says this will yield a 7.3 SRM. Does LME result in more body than DME or will not using specialty grains...

    Get rid of some sweetness?

I made a 4 gallon batch of something I called a "winter" ale with 7# LME, 1# crystal 60 steeped for about 15 min @ 165F. 60 min 1oz columbus 12% AAU 45 min (meant to be 15 minutes) 1oz cascade 7% AAU 1 min 1oz cascade 7% AAU First, I messed up the hop schedule, and put in my flavoring hops at...

    OG American IPA

Not original gangster... but organic. Looking to put together just a good clean solid drinkable IPA. I've got 2x4.4# LME packets - was thinking of doing 1 at boil and one with 15 minutes left but could just do them all at once? 1 lb of 15L Crystal for 15-20minutes @ 160F 4.4# LME @...

    Anyone opened a super-microbrewery?

I am curious for those in locations where this might be feasible or allowed (not New Jersey...), anyone taken their hobby to the next level? I will give an example... I really don't know their capacity but Lawson's in Warren, VT is a great super micro brewery that distributes very close to...

    Cork/stopper into wort!

Just about done, I smacked the cork onto the fermenter too hard and it went almost into the wort. I took my favorite very sharp knife and tried to get the cork and ended up with the cork AND the knife in the wort!!!!! I am worried of course that I will "infect" my wort with the knife which...

Funnel w/ LESS fine strainer ?

Can someone suggest an alternative to the very fine strainer that came with my funnel. What ends up happening is I get very frustrated toward the end of the brew pot (even with taking it out and rinsing in iodine water every fill-up of the funnel) and end up just taking it out completely...

Before I make another bad brew

Hello guys, My first batch was a "Brew organic" IPA which I am finding is not very IPA like (to me). The Brew organic IPA calls for: 8.5#Briess Organic LME 8oz Briess Caramel 20oL 8oz Briess Caramel 60oL 1/2oz NZ pacific gem bittering (14.0 AAU) 3/4oz NZ pacific gem flavoring (14 AAU). 1/2oz...

    Help improving breworganic.com IPA?

I tried the breworganic.com IPA and didn't think it was hoppy enough. It really tasted more like an english strong ale with the fruity/sweetness (which may be partially attributed to my high ferment temperature). Could anyone suggest hops to add (either type,or more and how much more of the...
