I Need A Beer Frig To Store AND Ferment!

Oops... I changed the link for the frig to the one with the glass shelves. I'll check that convertible freezer out though... thanks!

I Need A Beer Frig To Store AND Ferment!

Thanks for the reply HopsMan. 1. I am just storing random six packs and 22oz I drink regularly plus my homebrews. The small frig out by my bbq is not cutting it anymore especially when I brew a 5g batch and have 24-26 22oz bombers that I need to store. At any given time I may have 12-20 beers...

I Need A Beer Frig To Store AND Ferment!

Been reading through the forums and lots of debate on a frig vs. freezer to ferment and store beer. Here is my problem… beer ferments too high in a better bottle even when kept in a cooler filled with water, wrapped in a towel and rotating out frozen ice bottles. At best I can keep the...

    DFH 60 Minute Help

How do I keep in low\mid 60s in the Summer? Is a dedicated frig the only option? On the DFH 60 I placed carboy in a plastic keg bucket and filled halfway with water and rotated frozen water bottles twice a day and could barely keep it at 72*.

    DFH 60 Minute Help

Tasted a few of the 22oz bombers and all seem a tad too sweet on the finish. Read a few others posts where guys had the same issue. It was an extract and my boil was approx. 2.5g. All went ok on brew day and I followed everything exactly as I normally do. Hop profile is ok. It is carbed ok...

    DFH 60 Minute Help

I posted this in the DFH 60 Minute thread but thought I might get more of a response in this forum. Used Yoopers extract recipe. Slightly modified due to some specific ingredients not available at local HBS. Primary (70-74*) – 2 weeks Dry hop primary (70-75*) – 1 week Carb at room temp...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Primary (70-74*) – 2 weeks Dry hop primary (70-75*) – 1 week Carb at room temp (72-76*) – 2 weeks Have tested 2 beers from the 5 gallon batch. Both had some profile. I used Irish moss but the beer is still “hazy”. What else could I have done to fix this? Maybe dry...

    Brown Ale Extract

Anyone have an extract recipe for a good dark brown ale? I want to make one for Fall. I have the DFH 60 Minute IPA dry hopping right now and as soon as I bottle it, I want to get another brew going. I had a great brown ale at the Union Kitchen & Tap in Encinitas a few weeks back and can’t...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

I usually never take a gravity reading prior to bottling and have never dry hopped before. I just want to make sure fermentation before dry hopping is complete so I guess I need to take a reading. I can dry hop tomorrow (in the primary) and then bottle next Wed. Otherwise, I have to wait and...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Fermentation has slowed way down and I removed the blow off tube on Saturday. Getting a bubble in the airlock every few minutes. Should I take a gravity reading in 1-2 days before I dry hop or wait the full 14 days? It has only been 9 days so far.

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Also... local HBS does not have simcoe or the pacman yeast. So I talked to the guys there and substituted summit hops for the simcoe and I went with the White Labs yeast.

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

I am fermenting at 70-73* so I assume that is going to be ok. Weather is warm so it is hard to keep the carboy (better bottle) cool. I have it sitting in a party bucket filled with about 6-7" water and I keep adding ice packs. I also have the carboy wrapped in a damp towel. Also had to install...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Do I need to transfer to secondary to dry hop? I really prefer to only move my beer once :mug:

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Thanks Yooper! Also, can I skip the dry hopping or is it necessary for this IPA?

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

Brewing the extract recipe on Saturday. Just want to be clear on when to add first and final hop additions to the boil. Did anyone use a specific hop schedule or just followed Yoopers directions to a tee? If local HBS does not have Pacman is White Labs ok?

    Boil Water Help

The largest burner on my gas stove seems to heat up water pretty quickly. I am considering buying this pot: BoilerMaker Brew Pot (10 gal) Figure it is the next step to do start doing partial mash. Also been reading about different times on when to add the extract to the boil. Is there a...

    Boil Water Help

I have a 20qt stainless pot I use to brew with (5 gallon batch). I usually only use 2-2.5 gallons for the boil as I am afraid of a boil over (has not happened.... yet). Is there any significant reasons to increase the amount of water in the boil (if possible) to make a better quality beer...

    Lagunitas IPA Extract Recipe

Thanks for the good info. Ok... got it on the high mashing and that it only applies too all grain brewing. At what time during the boil would you recommend adding the other half of the extract? I fully understand the gravity and IBUs but was not sure what Grizzly meant by "although I would use...

    Lagunitas IPA Extract Recipe

Sorry, still new to brewing so a few questions... 1. You mean at high temp? "Lagunitas mashes extremely high, creating a very dextrinous wort" 2. What do you mean by this? "This should give you a beer around 1.060 - 1.065 with ~45 IBU's (although I would use a late extract addition to achieve...
