    From last night....

    Craig's List Wins

Last week I got a brand new, full, 50# CO2 tank from a guy on Craigslist for $220. They go for $475 locally. The guy has a steady supply. Might need to get another.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

Currently have 25 gallons of a 9.5% Coconut Chocolate Imperial Porter (with a touch of vanilla). 57 gallons of a 6.3% IPA, packed with Columbus, Simcoe and Centennial and 53 gallons of a 2xIPA, 8.5%, with Cascade, Citra and Amarillo. Kegged the contents of our other 3 the end of last week...

Remember those cool White Labs yeast plastic vials?

I did some a while back, with different grains and hops in them. That was before I switched to baseballs I drilled and made in to tap handles. 4 taps on the keezer, each baseball I got from a different league.

    2 New brews per week

Nope. The opposite actually. We’re hoping to hit 30+ BBLS this year. 1.5 down so far... got a ways to go. :)

Taste buds are a personal thing!

You have put into words what I was feeling when I had my first IPA. I do not recall what it was. But I do remember where I was, who I was with, what day it was and how it made me happy to finally be drinking a beer with some amazing flavors in it. Until then, my idea of 'craft' was Stella. :)

    So who's brewing this weekend?

We’ll be brewing 50 gallons of our 8% DiPA today.

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

I hear you. We’ll be starting a 12+ hour brew day shortly so we can get 50 gallons of our 8% DiPA done today. To think, I called out of my regular job, so I could work 12+ hours in the brewery today. #Goodtimes

    Clearing Beer - Why?

Exactly. This goes for many things, like a big example would be cooking. I know there are a lot of people that say that it don't matter to them what the beer looks like, same as they say they dont care if their omelette looks like its been dropped on the floor and run over by a Mac truck, in...

How long before you made your first real good beer?

No, I have never had any post fermentation diacetyl issues. As for how I deal with the hops, using conicals makes things much easier, just drop it out the bottom. Depending on the beer, meaning how much DHs goes into that beer, we might bag them as well. If not, its just toss them in and...

How long before you made your first real good beer?

I honestly wouldn't be able to say what batch # it was for me. I do know that from when I started, just over 8 years ago, until that 1st one that *I* got excited about, I never had one that I felt was terrible, just others were better. Interestingly enough, I am still that way. Our latest...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

YES! EXACTLY! My biggest pet peeve is when people say to me "You're just looking for a cheap, quick and easy way to get drunk". Um, there is nothing "Cheap", "Quick" or "Easy" for that matter about any of this. My reply is most generally, "Nope, that's what the vodka bottle is for!" Now that...

    IPA burnout

The first few that I tried, I really enjoyed. I've even brewed one with just Galaxy and it was awesome. However, the more and more I try from different breweries the more and more I realize that it doesn't appear that these places care what it tastes like, as long as the cloudy look is there...

    What's Your Fermentation Capacity?

Currently we have 2 60 gallon conicals, and 2 35 gallon conicals (190 gallons). Fermentation room is 8 ft x 8 ft, so all of those plus I think we could get another one in there as well, if we had it, which we don't right now. :)

    Equipment question and humble brag

I can somewhat agree to this. Along the same lines, I have always stated that I see no reason to enter any of my beers into competitions. People have accused me (for lack of a better way to say it) of just knowing my beer was Sh***y and not wanting to prove it. I have always felt that comps...

What’s the most hops you’ve put into a 5 gal batch?

LOL. I used to be the one that would say "There never can be too many hops". Realistically, that just isn't true, but the point is, I love a big ass hoppy beer. Now, with the business, I am the kind that wants to make the big hoppy beers, but also needs to find the balance between pricing and...

    Equipment question and humble brag

I somewhat agree/disagree with this. I feel that to be a better brewer, you need to be able to nail a recipe and repeat it time after time after time. But with that said, if you are only doing 1-2 recipes and doing the well, you cant grow as a brewer either. I had never really worried about...
