bottling- priming sugar to beer vol ratio linear?

yes the ratio is constant and so as long as you apply the formula based on the volume it will work out the same.

    Mmmmmm. Chinook....

Have used chinook primarily for bittering in my APA's but have never used it as a single hop. Would be interested to hear how this turns out.

Simple Pale Ale (From odds and ends I had around)

looks good, one suggestion I would have would be to split or add more Cascade to the end of the boil. Maybe do a 1/2 oz at 15, 10 and then 1 minute. This will give you that really nice strong cascade nose in the finished beer.

    Efficiency/Volume Help

Easiest way to do this is with you recipe software, do you use any? I use beer tools pro and on the analysis tab you can imput your actuals and it will give your efficiency. I am sure there is also a manual way to calculate this but I have never done it. This info may be of use if you want...

Is this a good CO2 regulator?

Looks good. One gauge will show your PSI to the keg, the other will show the pressure in your CO2 tank.

    Compensating for boil-off volume

A way to do this is to take a little extra from the mash as you describe, put this in a pot and bring to the boil on your stove top. 10 minute boil should be fine and then add back into your main batch 10-15 minutes before the end of the 60 minute boil. Doing it this way will make sure that...

    Oyster stout/Oatmeal Stout experiment

Looks good. There s a great brewery in Ireland called the Porterhouse that does a fantastic Oyster Stout (they use real oysters!).

    Fluctuating Ferm Temps

It will have stressed the yeast slight, they like a consistant environment to perform their best. Having said that I am not sure you will see a difference in the end product, possibly a slight fruitiness from the high temperatures but nothing more.

    Loss Calculations

As far as I know you exprience some loss during cooling as the wort rapidly cools from boiling to pitching temp. You would expect to lose about 4% during cooling, this is down to the fact that the wort expands when hot and contracts when cooled. You won't lose a huge amount, but at 4% it is...

    Loss Calculations

You also need to account for the loss during cooling. The loss to grain is pretty standard at 0.15 - 0.2 Gallons per LB, while the loss to hops depends on the type of hops (pellet, whole leaf etc). I would suggest that the loss to hops and additives will be minimal and so I tend not to include...

    Hello From New Zealand

Hi Glenn. Primary fermentation should actually be finished in the first 3-4 days, then the fermenter should be allowed sit for anywhere between a further 1-2 weeks. this time will allow the yeast to clean up after itself. In terms of the temperature, 26c is very high, what type of beer are...

Have you ever used one of these....

I have heard of it before. But I would have to say that I would prefer a solution that is external to the fermenter (i.e the heating pad). If you use an emersion heater you are asking for an infection. Depending on the style of beer you should be aiming for 20c with you temperature control...

    Fly sparge results

To get your expected OG of 1054 what efficiency had you set? If you had your system set up for a 65-70% efficiency, you might have ended up with something closer to 80-85% that would explain the higher gravity. It's never wrong to get a higher gravity than expected :rockin:

Getting a Taste for Hop Contribution

Sounds like neat experiment. Why not make it with small sample batches of extract, do three 5 litre batches on the stove top. Steep a small amount of crystal in each and then do your different hop additions: 60 minute bittering addition in Extract 1 30 minute flavour/bittering addition in...

What not to do with your spent grains

Yep they'll pretty much turn to silage if you leave them. Easy thing is o spread them on the garden if you have any flowerbeds. Also you could give it to the local stables as horses love it.

Whirlfoc vs. Super Moss HB--or are they the same?!

Sorry can't offer a comparison, as I have not used Whirfloc, however super moss is excellent at clearing beer. Just add 15 minutes before the end of the boil.

    What would happen if....????

Should not have any negative effects. Basically the worts will be the same in terms of concentration, hop additions etc. It should not have any negative effect just because they are smaller batches. As long as you keep everything the same for the two pots then it won't be a problem.
