Double IPA Pliny the Elder Clone

I brewed this for a 4th party, and it turned out very good. I live in Ohio and we don't get Pliny, but had a bottle for a side by side taste test. I used 8 ounces of C40 and the color was spot on. The original seemed to have consistent bitterness and the same flavor through the middle of the...

    american stainless conicals from PA

Go to the ebay listing and click on the picture of the guy holding the conical. Blow it up, the poster behind him on the wall is Toledo Metal Spinning. It also looks like it could be the same gentlemen holding the conical. Just my two cents. Toledo does make sanitary conicals with 1.5"...

Why bother with carboys and blow-off tubes?

I had 6 glass carboys, and I always handled them carefully. I had several in my garage and one broke somehow. No beer was involved. I think my son hit it with the push mower. What surprised me was how thin some of the glass on the side walls is. I thought most of it was 3/16" or even a 1/4"...

American IPA Ithaca Flower Power Clone

I just flush with water and swirl around. It does take awhile to get them out. The hops were in for 7-8 days, then cold crashed two days. After the cold crash most fell to the bottom. A lot of the hop cones had broken down and were almost mushy, only spent around 5 minutes to clean each...

    2 kegs different carb results

The fridge is at around 39 degrees, I think I will leave them at 12 psi. I just thought it was strange to see basically the same beer at identical pressure carb so differently.

American IPA Ithaca Flower Power Clone

I have brewed this many times. I did back to back batches with my twin bro. I used 15 lbs of 2 row , half pound of honey malt and 4 ounces of c20L. The first batch had an OG of 1.069 and the second 1.068. I couldn't be happier. These will be tapped this Saturday, July 5th for an annual...

    2 kegs different carb results

Both kegs have the same volume of beer. Both were carbed off of the same tank with a T fitting. 30 psi for one day, then both were at 12 for 4.5 days now. They both are the same recipe, but brewed back to back, both really hoppy ipa's. I only took about a 1/3 of a glass sample of each, the...

DIY element guard on the cheap

One thing to consider, a 2" triclover cap is pretty thick. Once you put a gasket on the element there may not be much room for a nut. Better to get a cap with threads cut into it.

    Minimum space required

The electrical panel looks pretty packed. From the photo, it looks like there are 7 240 volt breakers already in the panel, which I can't imagine what they all are for. The top two on the right, and the top three on the left and the bottom two on the left. A 240 volt breaker will take up two...

    Heating Element and Wort

Using you theory, wouldn't the first few millimeters of a direct fired kettle also be above 212 degrees? You should clean an element after every brew, usually quite easy just using a green scotchbrite type of pad. I have always done this after a brew session, and have never noticed any...

What gauge electrical cord for element

10 guage is correct, can handle 30 amps. watts/volts =amps. 5500/240=22.92 amps. However, I think you want the SSR controlled pid #SYL 2352. You can run a single PID with both elements, PJ has a diagram for this, it is the second one listed in this...

    final four homer announcers

Apparently if you were a Florida fan your homer color commentary announcer was on TNT, and as a Connecticut fan your announcer was on TruTV, A Kentucky fan, your homer was on TNT, and if a Wisconsin fan, you should have watched Tru Tv. Not knowing this, and rooting for Wisconsin, I watched the...

Lets see how crazy its gotten. How much have you spent on your Electric Brewery?

I tried to keep track, but I am sure I missed the little stuff. About $1600 to $1700. All triclover, bought at scrap prices, including triclover pumps. Pump motor bought off ebay, as well as twist locks, ssr's, din mount breakers, all off the bay. Some items were purchased at a surplus supply...

    filling bottles and growlers..

+1 Just use a larger stopper for the growler. As said, works great. I was always disappointed in my growlers, seemed as though my beer was flat. This allows the carbonation to stay, just fill it slow.

Where to install heating element into kettle?

I guess it depends on your setup. If using multiple pots, if you have two adjacent pots with the left pot at 4 o'clock and the right at 7 o'clock, then you could have interference between them, especially when you consider the connections should be potted and the cords are heavy and do not bent...

    Sani-Q - Buckeye

The Betco product does not mention fermentation tanks, but does mention dairy tanks and dairy processing equipment, so it looks to be a very similar product.

    Sani-Q - Buckeye

I work in the janitorial supply industry, I am not a distributor of Buckeye products, so I have no experience with this product. However I am a distributor for the Betco corporation line of products. SaniQ sounds very similar to a Betco product called Sanibet. Betco's part number for the...

    Is this weld ok?

That looks way better. Once again if in the boil kettle, not a huge deal. In your case you looked like you got down to the base metal, which should repassivate.
