    National Homebrew Competition

Still waiting on ribbons in Boston. Just to confirm, we have to send the same beer that placed (category and sub style) correct? If so I'm bummed, because my Vienna Lager is peaking now and would be my first choice to send over my winning categories

    2016 Continental Hops release

The Yakima Valley 2016 crop is starting to flow. Does anyone know when the European crop will start to reach us? I want to start a bunch of German Lagers and want fresh hops. Thanks!

    Trillium Artaic Clone

Both breweries sold out of this batch of Artaic in about a day. They made over $100,000. You had to wait in line and lines aren't uncommon at both locations on regular days now.. This batch was not like the first batch apparently. I didn't have the first one, but they had some issues with...

I would call it more satire than sarcasm and I always make time for a good quip.

    Trillium Artaic Clone

1 of 6 bottles was tolerable levels of onion flavor and aroma, but the other 5 were awful. My friend poured his down the drain. $12 a bottle and you had to wait in line. If you remove my vengeful humor and don't add the onions, I bet this would be close to what it should be. I might try and...

    Trillium Artaic Clone

Attached is my Trillium Artaic Clone. For those that have had the honor of tasting it, you will "Get it". As a tip. Make sure you don't cut the onion too small or it WILL clog your dip tube. Trillium Artaic Clone Double IPA (22 A) Type: All Grain Batch Size: 10.00 gal Boil Size: 14.02...

Electric motor recommendations for mash stirrer

Thank you for the advice. The ice cream makers are nice and cheap. Processhead, which motor would work from that site? Thanks.

Electric motor recommendations for mash stirrer

Seeking advice from the technically inclined. I am building a decoction vessel and want an electric stirrer to prevent scorching. What specs should I look for: AC vs DC RPM Torque Etc. I will mount it in the lid and my goal is to find the cheapest option that will adequately keep grain and...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I don't think he freeze concentrates as that would be considered distilling and illegal, unless he did it before adding yeast? Seems a little far fetched to me, but anything is possible.

Decoction mash technique idea with Electric Rig

For reference, what I do now is scoop most of the grain out with a colander and put in a separate pot which I bring outside and bring to a boil on a burner while stirring. It is a bit of a pain, especially in the winter. I am trying to create a more efficient process. I could easily drain off...

Decoction mash technique idea with Electric Rig

Let me know if there are holes in this thinking.... I have a Kal clone herms system with heater elements. I am thinking of getting a 3500W induction top for my Mash tun. My process would be to conduct a normal mash. Get up to the lower Sacch rest in the 140s with the herms, Then drain most...

Ferm. Chamber for an SSBrewtech 14 gallon Conical

Well it took me a year of scouring craigslist, but I have my two Trues! I bought some heavy duty casters on eBay and I can roll these anywhere I need. They are both hooked up to Flashed STC 1000s so I can ramp and program ferm profiles. Loving the ease of use and they look great too. I...

How do you whirlpool + hopstand with a plate chiller?

I use my hop rocket packed with stainless scrubbies as a grant/filter at the kettle outlet, then to pump-plate chiller- whirlpool. Then I can dial in temp no problem and even leave the cold break in the kettle before diverting to fermentor.

    Wort Filtering Idea

I have tried a lot of techniques And I now use a Blichmann Hop Blocker in the kettle, with a Hop Rocket packed with stainless scrubbies before my plate chiller. I whirlpool back into the kettle for a bit to get temp down and leave some cold break in there and then transfer to the fermentor...

Having a crack at a Mango IPA this weekend, thoughts on my recipe?

Freezing fruit does a reasonable job of killing a lot. Adding towards the end of primary means there is no O2 and there is alcohol present which helps as well. The yeast can outcompete anything there. I keep my beer kegged and cold after primary, so it is unlikely in my process to get...

Having a crack at a Mango IPA this weekend, thoughts on my recipe?

Amount depend on what you are going for. I am doing a session IPA with Citra and Mosaic and added 2lbs of passion fruit purée and 1lbs of Mango chunks. I am trying to compliment the hops and provide a boost in tropical flavor and aroma. I will let you know how it balances.
