    Sanitising Bottles

After years of using bleach to sanitise my brew equipment, i have finally made the switch to StarSan (wish I had done this years ago). My question relates to sanitising bottles. With bleach, I would sanitise bottles while my beer was in the fermenter, giving them a 1 hour soak in bleach and...

    Magic Hat brewery tour

Was passing through Vermont with the family today, when my wife suggested we stop by the Magic Hat brewery for a tour. It was a fun tour that even the kids enjoyed, with some nice samples at the end. If you are passing through the Burlington area, it is worth checking out.

    Over attenuation

My last few batches of beer have attenuated more than expected, mostly finishing in the 1.002 - 1.004 range when the calculator from hopville has estimated the Fg to be in the 1.010 to 1.012 range. My last brew finished at 1.001, and for the first time I have noticed a slight sour taste to the...

    IC design question

I just got a good deal on 42 feet of 3/8od copper tubing so I have decided it is time to finally build an immersion chiller. Before I turn this into a chiller, I was wondering about the importance of chiller coil diameter. I was planning to make a 12" diameter coil, which would keep the entire...

    Storing LME

I bought 4kg of LME today in hopes of brewing tonight, but it seems life has gotten in the way, and now I won't be able to brew until next weekend. Is my LME (in an airtight container) fine at room temp for a week, or should I put it in the fridge?

    Another coffee thread

I plan on brewing a coffee stout and was wondering about the coffee addition. My plan is to cold brew the coffee in a french press and add it to the beer after the primary fermentation is complete. The way I see it I will be able to add the coffee a bit at a time until I get the taste I want...

Hi All, I will be brewing a stout this weekend, and I need some help adjusting the recipe. Originally, it calls for 3kg dark LME, but all my LHBS had fresh was light LME. The specialty grains in this recipe are 1/2# each of crystal 80, roasted barley and chocolate malt. If I was to switch...
