Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

^^^ Looks very tasty. I just got mine bottled tonight, and so begins the 3 week eternity.

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

I brewed this recipe on 2/12, just took a hydrometer reading last night. It's gone from 1.040 to 1.008, so right on track. I dry pitched the Nottingham, and it was bubbling within 6 hours. Now that primary fermentation is done, the wort has cleared up and looks (and tastes) like liquid gold. I...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Just finished brewing the all grain version. OG is 1.054 and I pitched WYeast 1056. I loved my mini-mash version of this beer - can't wait to taste this one!

Who Else is Brewing for New Year's Eve?

I brewed the Bee Cave Haus Pale Ale today. Second time I've brewed it, but this is the first all grain batch (first time was mini-mash).

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

I did 5 oz of priming sugar, and it (not surprisingly) was way too much. Tastes like CO2 bubbles attacking my tongue with needles! I'm thinking something more in the 4.3 oz range would have been better.

American Pale Ale Da Yooper's House Pale Ale

Brewed this yesterday, and followed the recipe to the letter (except to adjust the hop schedule since my Cascade pellets were 5% AAU). OG is 1.052 so slightly worse efficiency, but I'm using the DeathBrewer stovetop method. Hit 154 on the nose for the mash. I pitched Wyeast 1332 since my LHBS...

    Festbier BierMuncher's OktoberFAST Ale (AG)

Any thoughts on Wyeast 1968 for this brew? Seems like it has the right properties, as long as you don't ferment too warm (>70) to avoid fruity tastes. BTW - this will be my first AG batch, done DeathBrewer style. Should be fun!

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

Update - just had the first bottle of my batch after 10 days of carbing up. Turned out great - the carbonation is incredible already. The watermelon flavor is perfect - noticeable but not overpowering. Ben - I did 5 cups of watermelon juice in the secondary, and then the carbonation procedure...

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

I bottled mine today. Ended up doing a hybrid of corn sugar and the watermelon jolly ranchers. I did 100 grams of corn sugar and 15 jolly ranchers (= 55 grams of sugar), for just under 5.5 ounces of total priming sugars. I double-bagged the jolly ranchers in ziploc bags and crushed them with a...

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

OK, I did a test run with the jolly ranchers. Boiled some water and added 5 candies at flameout. They kind of melted into one large mass sitting on the bottom of the pan. I grabbed a metal spoon and put the tip into the mass, then kind of rubbed it around the bottom of the pan. This worked...

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

Sounds like a decent process - I like the idea of boiling the water separately and adding the candy at flameout. My understanding is that a jolly rancher will melt in water above 119 degrees, but I have not done a practice run. I bought the 160-count package of jolly ranchers so I could do a...

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

Thanks - I am going to bulk-melt enough jolly ranchers in water to mix with the entire batch. If the math is right, 26 or 27 jolly ranchers should be enough for the 5 gallons. Has anyone tried this bulk method, or has it only been 1 per 22oz bottle?

    Fruit Beer watermelon wheat

Brewed this yesterday morning - happily bubbling away in the primary now. Followed the original recipe, but pitched Wyeast 3068. I ordered the watermelon jolly ranchers to use for priming - will report back when it's ready for tasting in mid-August.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Brewed this last night (mini-mash style), bubbling away today. Pitched Wyeast 1056. Only other change was to use 2.5 pounds of Vienna instead of 2 due to the inefficiency of the mini-mash. OG was 1.053 for 5.5 gallons, so right in the ballpark.

    BW3 beer choices sux

My local BW3 had (has?) the DFH 60 minute IPA in bottles. I happen to know the owner, and mentioned that it was the best beer on their list - he said "that's not on the approved beer order list". Hopefully he listened to me and kept ordering it!

    Madison, WI

Welcome, fellow Madisonian! This site is amazing - very little need to post a question, since most questions have been asked and answered many times. I've only done extract so far myself (about 7 batches).

    National Homebrew Day May 1........

Brewed a Pliny clone today. First full boil out on the driveway (but still extract). Went pretty well, but we forgot the thermometer at my brother's place and had to ballpark when to stop the chiller. Got it in the fermenter, came out at 81F. So - put it in the fridge for a couple hours, got it...

    Brewing or University??

My 0.02 - short term pain, long term gain. Get the best education and then the best job you can. Best job does not necessarily mean highest paying, but (for me) a comfortable work/life balance. You will have the rest of your life to brew (or attend to any other hobby), and your education/job...
