Wind Shields needed for garage brewing?

When galvanized metal gets too hot it releases bad bad bad fumes. The concept is good, but stay away from galvanized metal.

    Thermometer in keggle

Simple question: Should I get a combo sightglass and thermometer mount OR should I mount the thermometer separate from the sightglass? I realize that's more holes, but I would like both a thermometer and a sightglass. Thanks in advance!

Newbie building a keggle, stop the madness!

So, I have not actually made my keg into a keggle. But I was bored in the garage this weekend, so I put it on the old buffing wheel. Not perfect, but it's better. Before: After:

Newbie building a keggle, stop the madness!

Boy did this thread get some traffic last night! I am using a modern sanke keg, not an old style keg. I do plan to back gas the weld. I plan to run two beads of weld, rotating my start and stop position by 90 degrees to prevent porosity. I have experience welding dissimilar thicknesses of...

Newbie building a keggle, stop the madness!

Looking at several websites, and I don't see what I'm looking for. I'm leaning towards welding in a bung. (I may pay someone to do it, I may do it myself, dunno) I don't see any keggle kits that are designed for welding in. Only weldless kits. Suggestions?

What do you mean by welded correctly? As long as it is a solid bead that does not leak it should be GTG, right?

Newbie building a keggle, stop the madness!

Oh! A RIMS. Another device I do not yet understand. I have a buddy with a plasma cutter that I need to take some car show tickets to. If he can't do it I figured I'd use an air saw. It would take longer than a grinder, but it be easy to get it nice.

    Bacon or Chocolate?

    Pie. Get both.

Newbie building a keggle, stop the madness!

Maybe what I mean was not well communicated. Probably... I've seen immersion chillers installed in place in other keggles here. They look like they are retained with compression nuts so they can be removed. I can see how an immersion chiller could get in the way of stirring up a whirlpool...

Newbie building a keggle, stop the madness!

I got the hookup on a keg. A buddy had one in his garage from an aborted hot rod build. It was destined to be a gas tank, but it never happened. It's mine for all of $7! I'm supposed to have it Monday. I'm in the planning phase of my keggle. I'm an extract brewer now, but I'm headed to...

    Keggle build

Thanks! I'll check with the nearest brewpub (in Greenville!) and if that fails I'll use the brew-magic link.

    Keggle build

I'm certainly not trying to start a firestorm. Sabco's site says they only sell in lots of 25. Am I not looking at the right site?

    Keggle build

This may be in the wrong section... I'm interested in building a keggle. I've read many of the threads here, and I have a lot to learn before I start. But I have one big issue: Where do you get the keg? I know it's a rookie question, but I'm a rookie in many ways. Thanks in advance!

    Rookie racking cane question

Well, to be honest my daughter broke one while she was playing with it. I stepped on the first one after I dropped it, and the one I broke most recently was trying to pull the tubing off the cane.

    Rookie racking cane question

I broke my third racking cane yesterday. It occurs to me that I have a good section of 1/2 inch aluminum fuel line in the garage leftover from a truck I built. It's never been used, and it's just hanging in a coil on the garage wall. The cane I broke is 1/2 inch, so why can't I use this...

    Insert catchy title here:

That must have been John Carson. He was a good guy, but his replacement is an idiot. Yup, Due West; "ten miles from the nearest form of sin." So I guess ten miles is the length of a dollar bill?
