5500w element taking a long time to heat

This is an old thread but incase new electric brewers read it I offer this: Contrary to popular belief, a GFCI doesn't actually check current to Earth Ground. It actually uses a differential current comparator to test the current flow through the device. In a 120 v GFCI, it compares the current...

    FWH Beersmith

I don't attempt to alter boil time by first wort time. The 20 min is a very general statement. In actual practice I put the hops in the kettle before my first running, and they stay for as long as that running, both batch spages, and the time it takes to bring the kettle up to boil. Since I...

Reasons NOT to use first-wort hopping...

Wow a lot of interesting thoughts!! We have used FW hops for the past 34 brews. We typically make a simple Pale Ale, a Simple Blond (sorry ladies), and a simple Amber. All have an OG at 1.050. You name the hop, we're trying it looking to make bulk purchases next year to save money. Here's our...

Hey Dragon Tail, Thanks for the Howdy! Not sure where Salem is but its got to be colder just now than we are. Nicest part of brewing in the winter is the extra heat output............ so........ Keep brewing:mug::mug:

    FWH Beersmith

Hello Nukebrewer, I'm not an expert brew chemist or software guru. So please consider the source as you make your decision as to how you will proceed. I FWH every batch because I buy hops in small quantities as I brew. I want to get the best "Bang for the Buck" with my hops as at .oz...

    FWH Beersmith

BeerSmith defaults to a 10% increase of IBU for FWH ovwer the normal value calculated for that addition of Hop AA%, addition weight, boil time, and utilization based on the specific gravity. You can change this in the "Options" as you make adjustments for your brew equipment
