    Homebrewing in/around Cheboygan Michigan

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Do you Michigan folks belong to any brewing clubs around here? I was thinking about starting one up in my area, but I would definitely join a larger group, even if I could not attend meetups frequently.

    Homebrewing in/around Cheboygan Michigan

Hi all, I'm starting to brew again after a bit of time off. Are there any other fellow brewers in the Cheboygan Michigan area? Send me a message and let me know where you are at. We could get a brew day going!

Filling co2 tank in/around Cheboygan Michigan

Hi all, Does anyone know of a place to fill up a co2 tank around Cheboygan (a bit south of Mackinac City, and north of Gaylord)? I'm having a bit of difficulty locating a spot. What places do you all normally fill your tanks at? Should I be looking for an exchange program instead of a...

    Cheboygan Brewing Company Amber

I know this post is super old, but if any of you all are near enough to visit the brewery in Cheboygan, they have a few new ones this year. A Blood Orange and a Blueberry Cream Ale. Check them out of you are in the area.

Kegging - Purchase a setup or construct my own?

Hi all, If this question has been answered/asked before, feel free to point me in that direction. I am finally moving from bottling to a dual keg setup, and I have a few questions. Before we go into the details, let me tell you a bit about what I am looking for in a setup: I would...

    Next equipment upgrade

You can make stir plates for pretty cheap. Give a search for some plans on Google if you are a DIY sort of person. Like HibsMax said you can make your own wort chiller too.

How long will pellet hops last in the fridge?

Great information Calder, thank you! I'll have to open up the tupperware and check to see what hops we have left. We were using a lot of cascade and chinook I belive so it is likely that we have those in there. It has been a long time ( > 1 year) and I imagine their aromatic qualities have...

How long will pellet hops last in the fridge?

I assume that hops, like any ingredient, will go "stale" or "bad" after a certain amount of time. Now that I have time to brew again, I was taking a little inventory to find out what I had from my last round of experimentation. I have probably close to 2-3 pounds of pellet hops that were in...

    Exploding Fermenter

Too true Joey11bball, all those sugars must be making the yeast go crazy. We'll take your advice and stick with the primary + blow off tube, hadnt thought about contamination. Thanks for the advice friends!

    Exploding Fermenter

Well we made it through the night with no explosions, but the krausen did overflow at some point while I was sleeping so I suspect that with a fully sealed lid it would have erupted again. This points to the krausen stopping up the airlock ( tried both a double bubbler and a single piece unit...

    Exploding Fermenter

Tonight while my brewing buddy was grabbing a beer out of our beer closet he noticed that our fermenter had exploded. I really wasnt alarmed... it was bound to happen sometime, so we cleaned it up and popped the lid back onto our fermenter. An hour or two later we heard another explosion ... and...

    AHS 1% Alcohol Boost????

Does it matter when you add the alc boost? I believe it calls for it to be added during the boil, and my brewing partner and I took that as meaning "at any time during the boil". If all we are doing is adding extra food for the yeast to consume we could technically add it at any time correct...
