Side by side freezer/fridge for kegerator?

A coworker's girlfriend is giving away a fridge/freezer combo. It's the side by side type with the water and ice maker in the door. If it will work for a kegerator, I'm thinking about getting it. I'm not sure but I think there are two different temp control units for each side. I was thinking...

    How much do you buy?

Let's take the simple extract recipe I brewed for example. 6.6lbs of LME and 1.5oz of hops (single hop brew) for a 5gal batch You make it, you love it, no changes, recipe dialed in to your taste. How much do you buy? Do you load up on hops to make sure you can get it, then buy LME as...

Do you focus on a style?

Just thinking about the beer I want to brew this weekend. It's going to be a wheat beer. I love wheat beer. Lager is OK. BCM is lame. I like classic German beer. I'm of German heritage (traced lineage back to the 1520s). Do you home brew to just make one style that you like or do you mix it up?

    First ever brew this weekend.

Been busy with a ton of other stuff in life, both good and bad. Finally getting around to brewing that Brewer's Best kit I got a year ago for a present. Supposed to be the Continental Pilsner. Going to create this thread as a journal for my first brewing. Here's the equipment I have: Two...

    New guy in the UP.

Just got a home brewing kit for Christmas from my parents. Looking to get into it. I'll be mostly lurking but will be asking as I go along.
