If you use the 6" version, it is tight enough you don't even need to screw it down. This is mine I did a while ago with the 6".

I put one of these collars from HD around the burner. It helped a lot. Before that I just used a few pieces of sheetmetal leaned against the legs. It didn't work nearly as good as the collar.

The thrift stores are definitely a gold mine. These are a few of many I have picked up for less than a buck apiece.

Carefully applied clear packing tape will help delay that happening from general washing/soaking. I dunno about soaking for a long period.
