    Don't Do That.

brew a nice belgian blond, add 2 pounds of local suppernong grapes. Then forget to take them out for 4 weeks. Don't do that. Terrible tannins from these grape skins

    My “Sumerian” Ale

Brioche is a french bread made with eggs. "sourdough" is a yeast+bacteria culture, same bugs that make beer sour make "sour dough". The yeast in sourdough will be killed by cooking, but there would have been enough yeast around from flour dust and prior batches to start fermentation back then...

    North Carolina March pump $75

Sorry, photo's screwed over by Photobucket, I apparently missed it last month when they screwed all the long term account holders over. (I've used them since 2006). What a pain.

    North Carolina March pump $75

Used March pump, as in photo's. I've used this for several years, upgraded my pump and don't need this. Shipping included. Sorry, didn't know photobucket has sold out. This is a march pump with the "plastic" head, side inlet and outlet, no stand or mounting bracket. I'll find somewhere...

What to pitch for a Flanders Red Soleria

I used roselare, if you are not in a hurry it eventually becomes sour. I did 15 gallons (to use a sanke keg for long term storage) with 5 gal on roselare, and the other 10 with 2 different types of belgian abby yeast. When i pull off 5 gal (every 6 months or so) I top off with 5 gallons...

    Malting Hemp Seeds

not sure why you would do this---unless you are making some sort of gluten free "beer". Otherwise grind them up and add them to your mash. Any starches will convert with 2 row or 6 row barley malt.

    Keezer under bar top

I did the bar top hinged, worked fairly well. You have to make a new top with wood+insulation (1 inch insulation sandwiched between 1/4 plywood and the top) to go on top of the collar instead of using the original lid, works really well. Always surprised visitors when I lift up the top, because...

    Show us your Kegerator

There are only a few examples of split top keezers, so I thought I would put up photo's of my bar/keezer build. It was up and running after 2 weeks of work, but small things (like hinges, lid stays, case fans) were added over another 3-4 weeks. Started with a 7 cf chest freezer, and added a...

How long is BIAB taking you?

This. If the only thing I'm doing is brewing BIAB, it is about 3.5 hours, sometimes 3 if I decide to clean in place and let things soak overnight. If I'm doing other stuff, its often 4-5 hours from start to done, but the lawn gets mowed, garage cleaned up, car washed, or off to the...

What kettle to buy for BIAB

I started with a 7 gallon aluminum pot--its too small. I agree with the others suggesting a 15 gallon pot---it will let you do a 5.5 gallon batch up to ~20 pounds of grain (along with water for BIAB) or a 10 gallon batch of a 1.050 beer I'm now using a spike brewing 20 gallon (after using a...

North Carolina electric keggle complete $75

This is my old electric keggle, worked great for about 4 years, just upgraded to a spike brewing 20 gallon kettle. Has element, element housing (Grounded), electric cord, RTD port (silver soldered) and RTD. Has wedless 1/2 port and valve, sight glass (silver soldered connection) with...

    Lambic solera project update-1st year

Hey thanks for your interest! Keg #1 has a total of 15 gallons. 5 of that was originally a porter fermented on roeselare blend. The other 10 was a belgian "Blond" (pale malt, wheat malt, dextrin malt) Its been aging for a year. Keg #2 was 15 Gallons of a pale belgian similar to #1. Just...

    Lambic solera project update-1st year

So this started in July 2015--made 5 gallons fermented on Roselare, added 10 gallons of similar wort fermented with a belgian blend and capped off the keg. . Was pleasantly sour by 12/2015. I bottled about 2 gallons and topped off the keg with 2 gallons of a blond belgian extract ale. I...

Spike brewing or SS Brewtech kettle

I bought a custom 20 gal from spike, very easy to work with. Especially like the somewhat lower profile site glass set up they have. I wanted a 1 1/2 in triclover port (for the element), a RTD threaded port. tim

Wit Beer with Lavender Recipe Question

be very very careful with the lavender. even a little can make your beer taste like an overpowering air freshener (voice of experience, couldn't drink it). Put 1-2 tablespoons in a dry hop bag, and put it in after fermentation. sample the beer every day---1-2 days will probably be enough time.
