    (dumb) SSR question

Brewmoor is right, that would be the SSR you need. You are also correct to look carefully there is 480VDC in alot of battery and solar applications so there are devices with ratings of 480 VDC usually they are inverters and such though.

    Snow!!!

I carry 12" of snow around with me everywhere I go..... Ok so maybe more like 3" but who's counting.

    More SSR questions

The voltage he is controlling ie his load will be 240VAC the relay was DC no go and magic smoke would ensue Edit: Already stated, yeah spec sheets can be a PIA to read and every manufacturer is different, I have smoked my fair share of thingsbecause I misread spec sheets, PNP does not like NPN...

Yep verify PN you may be getting a DC control voltage wich would suck

    2009 Christmas present thread

Well, I am getting everything I need to start brewing, so far that has turned out to be a whole bunch of stuff, including a 35qt SS pot and a new cabinet to store everything in, I am eyeing a wort chiller now as well, or at least the parts to make one.

SWMBO saw this and thought it was perfect so today we went to buy it but got Link instead. Thanks for the tip this should be perfect, keep her happy and all of my stuff will be in one place. We will be putting it in the laundry room just off the kitchen. You sir just made her very happy and me...

Need help from the Eletrical/Electonics experts!

I was trying to give him one PN for all three devices, two of which were 120 and I also figured he would have a main DC and proper fusing and just using the relay for control in which case breaking hot should be OK

Need help from the Eletrical/Electonics experts!

When and if I start building I will use AB parts as well, but only because my pricing will be about the same price as Automation Direct due to OEM pricing. We only build with AB when ever possible, I cringe when a customer spec comes in Siemens or Mitsubishi

Need help from the Eletrical/Electonics experts!

An Allen-Bradley 700-HG46Z12 is a power relay rated at 30A SPDT 12V coil relay which is what you are after. Just the relay on Plccenter.com is $21 and you would still need a switch. If you are trying to save money relays and control voltage switches will not be the way to go, but itwill impress...

    Pulse Width Modulation

There are AC coil AC Load SSR's so becareful when ordering, also turn on time and turn off time can vary for each relay but most are below 100 ms which is the minimum width you can set your controller to. Depends on if it is a leading or trailing PWM it could be off for .3sec then on for .7...

    Opinions on this pot please

I bought one so we will see how well it worked. It was cheaper then any other equivalent SS pot then I could find. If not it's only money right. shhhhh don't tell SWMBO or I will be drowning in shoes.

    240V extension cord?

It doesn't matter what your load is on the circuit for sizing wire you need it to be sized for your breaker. Check the breaker in the panel and size accordingly. As far as length goes, thats all about voltage drop and it really depends on the size wire you use but 15-30 ft will never be a...

    Opinions on this pot please

A Blickmann is 0.0478 or 18Ga This is 0.0394 thick or almost 19Ga I would think this would be OK, I am thinking about picking one up but I am in the same boat as you are.

Simple Brewing est. 2009 : The build

The three issues I really think need to be adressed before you put this to use are the male power plug, lack of ground fault, and the bare copper conductors. I can say for certain if you leave the wiring like it is with bare copper conductors hovering above hot and neutral biases that at some...

Simple Brewing est. 2009 : The build

UL 916, 508, 489 are related to SCCR ratings in panels, but I get the drift I will be quiet. I was just afraid for the guys safety.

Simple Brewing est. 2009 : The build

You all can tell me to shut up when ever but I also see BARE copper ground wires that are casually draped over live terminals, and we have liquid in a box with open terminals as well.
