    propane burner

I was looking for propane burners and regulator to build my herms system. After purchasing them on overstock.com I came across this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cast-Iron-Gas-Stove-Propane-Burner-Fryer-Stand-BBQ-Outdoor-Camping-Cooker-NEW-/181760309802?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 The guy...

    1/2 barrel herms burner

I am getting ready to do a 3 tier propane herms system. What btu burner is everybody using? I have seen things ranging from 37,000 to over 150,000 for their boil kettle.

    yet another chill haze question

I am trying to get rid of my chill haze. My chest cooler is not ready. In the mean time, I tried kieselol and chitosan. My beer is in secondary and appears to be clearing nicely except I dry hopped and have pieces of hop pellets floating around 6 inches below the surface. My cooler will be...

    my first HERMS beer

WOOOWWWW!!!!! I waited 5 weeks to try it. I use the same style recipe, but the end result was much different. My my temps were much easier to maintain and the end result is a much lighter body beer. Is there a chance that wort with OG of 1.060 and FG of 1.15 may have a higher ABV when mashed...

    My Stovetop HERMS

Here it is. I just tried it out Thursday for the first time. It uses 8 gallon steamer pots, weldless valves, my bottling bucket, the bottom of another bucket that has been drilled-notched-and inverted as a false bottom, 20 feet of 3/8 soft copper, march pump, and 5 feet of cpvc and fittings.

    My HERMS is HERMING

Finally got to Lowe's to buy the remaining plumbing neccessities. It is a 6 - 7 gallon stovetop design that I put together for about $250.00. My chiller was insufficient and I lost 1/2 gallon of 200+ degree wort. Glad I put that valve in. Hopefully this will help with the chill haze issues that...

    unstuck fermentation

I made a 5 gallon batch using 6 lbs of 2row, 1 lb of toasted 2row, and 1 lb of white rice. It fermented like crazy the next day and quit bubbling. I racked and dry hopped in a glass carboy 7 days later. Instead of clearing, it has started bubbling again 3 or 4 days after being in the carboy...

    My recent upgrades

I discovered that my Zapap lauter tun had more space than I thought below the bottom. I now have a false bottom courtesy of the Makita Sawzall. I was unhappy with the excessive trub that I was getting, so while in the craft shop with my wife, I bought some nylon mesh. The lady had no idea what...

pump for HERMS / RIMS setup

Has anybody had experience with the pump below? It is not a March, but it looks like it would do the job for a fraction of the price. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320482692235&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

    Thank you Brewmaster's WH

I was not satified with my two most frequent suppliers. Brewmaster's WH was suggested on this site. I placed my order online @ 3:30pm. I received a phone call letting me know that one item was out of stock and what did I want to do. I asked for a credit and not to worry about it. My very well...

    New and improved

I hooked the drill up to the corona mill yesterday. Should have done that a long time ago. Today I am reworking my tun. The herms conversion is next.

yet another HERMS vs RIMS thread

I found my pumps on EBAY and now preparing to build a stovetop system, but I am trying to decide which way to go on the build. What is wrong with mashing 10 pounds of grain with 7 gallons of water for 90 minutes, pausing to raise the temp to sparge level at the end once conversion has taken...

    extra water in mash

I am messing around and experimenting. Everything I see says mash 1 qt of water per pound of grain. What happens when you use 1.5 qts per pound? This is on the stove infusion mash with no circulation other than me stirring every 5 - 10 minutes.

Out of town without quality beer

Had to go out of town for work. I am in Podunk, Ga and the liquor store's idea of quality beer is michelobe. Regular michelobe, amber bock is not even sold by the 12 pack here. Guess I need to bottle every now and then. Kegging is just so much easier.

    Igloo cooler MLT alternative

I did not get the old cooler out of the garage. I have been mashing on the stove in a 4 gallon steamer. I was keeping the burner on low to maintain temp. I messed / burned one a few batches ago so I am trying something different. I wrapped my steamer pot with a folded towel and put another one...

I think my grain mill did a good job

While waiting on my first 50 pound bag of malt to arrive along with the other ingredients, I decided to run some coffee beans through it as a test. The first test was done this morning and the coffee was great. My order arrived shortly after grinding the beans. I was cranking away in mere...

    drat! order not shipped

My homebrew supplier did not get my order packed in time to ship on Friday. Looks like I have to wait until Thursday to try out the new grain mill instead of Tuesday.

    hop storage

Getting ready to buy a pound of hops. I do not have room in the refridgerator. How do hops fare in the freezer?

    This Sucks

Things got a little tight time and money wise. I attempted a Sierra Nevada clone that tastes like lemons. Don't know what happened, but it is barely drinkable with a squeezed orange wedge only. I have two batches in secondary now on the back porch to speed clarification in the cold. Due to a bad...

    My grain mill is here

Caught a deal on a Corona type mill on ebay. It just arrived. Opened it up, put it together and then took it apart and put it back in the box so the wife can wrap it. Now, do I order my last batch of crushed grain or wait a couple of days to make my next batches?
