    First Time Plain Ol Cider

I add 3lbs of raspberries and a lb of honey. It is not overly sweet in my experience, but you do get the flavor.

    First Time Plain Ol Cider

Sorry. With regards to adding the raspberries and honey, go ahead and add to the secondary. You can leave them for as long as you want, but I go with 3-4 weeks. Than I will bottle.

    First Time Plain Ol Cider

I've used regular wine yeast and this year I used a cider specific yeast. The brand escapes me at the moment. Both worked perfectly. With regards to priming, I have done both. Meaning, I have carbonated batches and left others alone. I prefer carbonating it I've found.

    First Time Plain Ol Cider

I do it every year. I make one straight up and it comes out very clear and dry, but I like it that way. Then I make a second one with raspberries and honey. That is the sweet one. Either way it is good, quick and easy. Oh....I keg the plain one, but bottle the fruit one.

    Time or lack there of.....

Great advice everyone. Thank you. I've got one all grain batch ready to go ingredients wise. Gonna bang that out and then may contemplate an extract batch. I have a cider going and also have a wine kit coming. Maybe I'm softening in my old age.

    Time or lack there of.....

How many of you out there throw in an extract batch or two once in a while? I have had no time of late so committing the better part of a day to all grain brew has been impossible to fit in. I'm thinking about maybe doing an extract batch due to how quickly you can bang it out. I'm a bit...

    First batch

I there. I'm a beer brewer for the most part though I have made ciders and meads in the past as well. Kind of feel like making wine a bit now. Bought a juice kit and am embarking on my first batch. Any tips? Kind of a vague question I know, but I know the process more or less relative to...

    Yeast Starter in Pyrex Jar?

As long as it's clean you'll be good. Just don't boil the wort in it. From what I have read, they don't make Pyrex like they used to and it will shatter. I was going to go the pyrex route too, but ended up going with an Erlenmeyer. Good luck.

    Places to buy oxygen canister?

I'm about to buy a disposibal one at Home Depot. Going to buy a regulator and stone Brewmaster.com. On second thought; I'm going to go with "disposable."

    Dry Hopping a Larger

I would recommend doing it in the secondary. I don't think you will get alot of the hop flavor and aroma at lagering temperatures.

I was in there this weekend too. Sounds like they almost have the ownership thing worked out.

Help me pick a yeast for my porter

You can't go wrong with 001 or 1056. I use WL001 more often then the 1056, but I have been repitiching it frequently.

    Brewing in CT...

Was talking with the guy yesterday. Sounds like there may be a shake up in ownership and that should smooth everything out a bit. Hopefully.
