    Mississippi 50L keggle

I've got a 50L Heineken keg with the top cut out; it's otherwise in great shape with no holes drilled yet. I would prefer to trade it for a slim quarter-barrel keg, but I will also sell it for $50 locally. I'm in the Jackson area during the week, and in the Laurel area on the weekend. ***SOLD***

    anyone need a keggle?

i've got a 50L Heineken keg with the top cut out. otherwise, it is in great shape and no holes have been drilled. i really want to trade it for a slim quarter-barrel keg, but i'd be willing to sell it if anyone really wants to buy it. i'm in the jackson area during the week and in laurel on the...

best way to control ferm temps with thermowell

So here's my quandary: i've read that placing the controller probe in a thermowell will cause drastic overshoot. but if i'm using a dual stage with a heater attached, would that not counteract the overshoot and give me more stable temps? if not, would it be best to use the ranco to control...

    waterproof, panel mount thermometer

does anybody have any experience with this thermometer? http://www.taylorusa.com/digital-panel-mount-thermometer.html i'm looking for something to measure fermentation and mash temps. i was going to order a Love TID and use it with a thermowell, but this is cheaper and supposedly...

Love temp probe with a Ranco controller?

i think i jacked up my temp probe on my Ranco, so i'm gong to get another one to be safe. however, i'm also about to order a Love temp indicator and probe. i read that the Ranco uses a NTC thermister, and Love sells a NTC probe, the TS-7 (only $4 BTW). i know nothing about how these things...

    rance temp probe question

okay, i ordered a thermowell a while back and finally got around to trying it out. my ranco probe didn't quite fit. i remembered reading about having to shave the coating off the probe--but apparently that advice was not in regards to the ranco probes. so after i started trying to shave some of...

    milling wheat?

i've never milled grains before, but i just ordered the new rebel brewer mill to get started. i've heard that wheat is really tough and have even see some people suggest that it requires a wider gap in the mill. so, what is the general consensus on milling a grain bill with wheat in it? do you...

    ? about Fantome Saison sourness

i've only just recently started getting my hands on a few (like 3 or 4) saisons. the most recent was Fantome Printemps. it had what i perceived as a tart/lemony/sourness to it at the end. this has me wanting to brew a saison with a similar citrusy sourness. so my question: is it brett yeast or...

    weird keg post leak!

apparently this is the first time i've used this particular pin-lock keg (not certain). when i went to connect the co2, i could hear it leaking. i sprayed around the lid thinking it wasn't seating properly. however, it ended up being the gas-in post assembly that was leaking (very badly). if i...

    possible oxidation issue

not sure where this thread would be better suited, so mods feel free to move it. ISSUE: i brewed an IPA and a chocolate stout that i just kegged yesterday. however, due to my own poor planning, i was forced to transport the freshly filled kegs in my truck for 100 miles before i was able to...

    some process, very low OG?

i've been doing all grain for about 2 years and i've probably done ~12 batches. my efficiency has always been between 75-80%. the last two batches, however, my OG was 15-20 points low. yesterday i brewed a belgian quad with 16lb of grain. mashed at 149F with 21 quarts of water. i split the...

    chattanooga area sites?

what are the must see places in chattanooga? i'm for sure going to moccasin bend brewery since one of the owners is a friend of my dad. other than that, what are some good places to visit and maybe sample some good brews or food? are there any good places to listen to some live bands, preferably...

someone please convince me to keep going!!!!

please forgive me, but this has become a regular question i pose to you here. WHY IN THE HELL CAN IN NOT MAKE A DECENT BELGIAN STYLE BREW????? i've done 5 batches now and they all have a sulfury funk to them that's definitely not to my tasting. i've had most of the great commercial belgians of...

    cleaning silicone hoses?

my last brew session, i noticed what appeared to be a few small spots of mold forming inside one of my silicone hoses. i use the hoses to pump the mash to kettle and kettle to CFC, so i'm hoping the boiling hot wort is rendering it harmless. nonetheless, i'm concerned. what would you...

    dry hop for belgian tripel?

sorry, but i posted this elsewhere and got no feedback. i brewer a tripel and it got too hot, leaving way too much banana esters. it's been in the keg for ~4 months already and it's still a little too much to be enjoyable. i was curious if dry hopping it with some nice hops would help with the...

    dry hopping my botched tripel?

i tried to make a belgian tripel and i think it got too hot too quick. regardless, it is pure bananas. it's been in the keg for about 4 months and i finally just took it out of the keezer. does anyone think it would help to dry hop with some nice hops to create something like a tripel ipa? or...

help me with my kegerator hose!

i put together a keezer a while back and i've had an ipa in there for about 3 months. the co2 has been set at ~12psi the entire time. i started with 10' of 3/16" beer line from keg connection. it was obvious that the line was too long, so i started trimming the line, 6" at a time. it finally got...

    FUBAR my tripel IPA?

i got the AHS Tripel IPA kit to try. i was planning to mash at 149 for 90min. long story short, i ended up at 146. so i left it for 60min then ramped up to 155 for 30 min. sparged with 168 water. everything went smooth and i hit my pre-boil and OG perfect. i had made a 2.2 liter starter, but...

    aging a tripel ipa?

i've had really bad luck brewing belgians, but all my IPAs have been great. so i was thinking that maybe i should try brewing a tripel ipa, which is one of my favorite styles anyway. my question to those who have experience with this style is do you age them for long periods (9-12 months) like a...
