Smoked mead; how much peat is too much?

I would love to hear how it turns out. I have never tried a 'smoky' mead, but it sounds damn good.

    newbie christmas mead question

I'm a novice mead maker also, but my bet is that adding a peppermint tea bag during secondary wouldn't be much different than adding it during the primary (or the boil). That is a good bet for making a nice light peppermint flavored mead, but like Emerald said, it could take a while to ferment...

    water question

I have always avoided distilled water and opted for bottled 'spring water'. It costs the same, but I have always suspected that it would work better than tap or distilled water, but I have no confirmation on that. Spring water has worked well in my brewing so far, so I have just stuck with it...

Wanted: Good plans for a cheap homemade mash tun

I had good luck with the 'do it yourself' method and wouldn't hesitate to suggest that others try it. Here is another DIY sample - Homemade mash tun instructions

    Hello from Springfield, MO

Welcome! It is always good to support a local brew shop, even if it costs a few bucks more.

    Cherry-Apple Cyser experiment

Changing the subject a bit, are you guys satisfied with the Lalvin yeast? So far, I am not pleased with the results, or have not waited long enough for it to age out. I don't think it is my recipe or process since I am happy with the results from liquid Wyeast... Just curious what others...

    All grain cooler system plans

I built my own, and didn't end up saving quite as much as I expected - heck, I probably broke even considering the number of trips to home depot to get parts I missed, wrong size, etc. Granted, seemed simple enought that I didn't print out the directions or shopping list... Maybe THAT was my...

Cold room and general brew shed advice needed

Wouldn't the least insulated part of the cold room be the window air conditioner? I have used the floor standing coolers, and am not impressed with them either - plan drainage for the condensation and a 4 dryer vent for the hot air to escape. Those methods seem to work for many, but wouldn't...

    Dunkelweizen FG problem

5 days is a slow start in my experience, but the gravity readings seem to be in the range that I would expect. I don't know how long it has been in the primary, but I wouldn't rush to get it bottled. I do expect that you would see an improvement in taste after some aging, but suspect that the...

Drank a Beer from My First Batch Tonight

I saw it suggested online somewhere to mark carboys with electrical tape to clearly identify where your 5 gallon mark is. Easily visible and you will always be able to remove it since it holds together better than other kinds of tape. I did this after having the same issue as you the first...

    Stumbling in from Kansas

I wish I could say that my stumbling was a result of my homebrew, but alas the jumbo keg-o-rator (AKA the tiny fridge) has run dry. I am looking forward to teaching you all about home brewing by learning from my many many mistakes. All kidding aside, I am glad I found the forum cheers!
