American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

A question: In working out the kinks with a new found efficiency, my OG was 1.079. While the beer is good, it's a little too robust and too alcoholic for my tastes. It's been kegged for about a month, and I've considered trying to dilute the remainder (approx 4 gallons) with water. Any...

American IPA BierMuncher's Outer Limits IPA

I'm pretty sure when I brewed this way back, I waited 3 weeks before dry hopping.

Pennsylvania 15 Gallon Blichmann for sale

Willing to work on the price of the Blichmann Boilermaker? They're available new (albeit with minor finish defect) from Adventures in Homebrewing for $355 shipped.

American Porter Bee Cave Brewery Robust Porter

Brewed this one today. My setup tends to be super efficient, so I had an OG of 1.079 at 5.5 gallons into the fermenter. The sample tasted great; I'm stoked to try it in a few weeks!

Homebrewing -- Does it take too long?

Perhaps, but in all seriousness, OP sounds like he's trying to be a great husband and father. And, it speaks well of his character that he considers the needs of his family above his own. However, I do question whether guys (and I realize there are some females in a similar situation) who...

Homebrewing -- Does it take too long?

I opened this thread, read the first few posts, then left. So disturbed by what I read, I returned to express my surprise that there are (married) guys who are in such a predicament. OP, my advice (and I mean no offense) is to have a talk with wifey and tell her you intend to brew and if she...

My old Simcoe . . . (still viable)?

Thanks for the good feedback, folks. The hops smell fine (love that Simcoe smell) and still are nice and green. It makes me happy to learn that they're still usable!

My old Simcoe . . . (still viable)?

I have around 12oz. of two year old Simcoe (pellet) hops. They've been stored in the freezer in a Ziploc bag. The original seal has been broken, so there is no "vacuum" seal. Would these still be viable for late addition aroma use (10min/1min additions)? I'd hate to toss these, but I don't...

    Cereal Killer roller inconsistent gap?

Thanks! I used the mill today (set to .037") and the crush was great. My efficiency was 81%. I'm very pleased with the crush the mill provided.

    Cereal Killer roller inconsistent gap?

Thanks! Given it's my first mill, along with all the discussion about such matters, I just wanted some reassurance!

    Cereal Killer roller inconsistent gap?

I haven't tried crushing grain with it yet since I wanted to ensure this was an acceptable amount of runout. The width of a hair (I had to check....lol) is 0.0004" or so.

    Cereal Killer roller inconsistent gap?

Hi folks, I just purchased a Cereal Killer mill and there is about .003" of variance in the gap as the roller spins. Should this be cause for concern? I've read where this problem was previously reported, but didn't know whether the above is considered "within tolerance"? Thanks for any...

    State College, PA

I'm in the State College area. Do we have any active clubs? I've been brewing for a few years and wouldn't mind joining a club (or talking to like-minded folks every now and then). It sounds like there are enough locals to support such an effort.

    Chocolate PB Anniversary Beer

Not sure if you have a Wegmans nearby, but they now carry powdered PB. BTW, digging the Nittany Lions swag! Thanks for the recipe.

Where to buy grain in quantities under 1lb?

That was my initial vendor, but thanks for the suggestion.

Where to buy grain in quantities under 1lb?

I used to be a big fan of a certain vendor who provided software to build a recipe on the site and choose specific amounts of grain (in quantities as small as an ounce). Due to poor customer service and a compromised credit card, I no longer shop here. Are there any vendors that offer a...

    Strong Bitter Common Room ESB

I'll be brewing this for a second time tomorrow. It's one of the better beers I've made to date, and works extra well served via a nitro pour!

Autumn Seasonal Beer Thunderstruck Pumpkin Ale (AG and Extract versions)

Brewed this on Saturday and hit 1.059 OG. My batch differed from the 6 gallon AG recipe a bit. I ended up using just over 100 oz. of freshly pureed pumpkin, 75 oz. in the mash and 25 oz. in the boil. Tasted a sample today (Gravity currently @ 1.021 . . .I hope this continues to drop) and it was...
