    Rice Hulls and grist ratio

When you add a significant amount of rice hulls to your mash, do you need to take that into account when calculating your water to grist ratio? For example: (5 lbs 2-row, 5 lbs wheat malt, .5 lb rice hulls) would that be 10 or 10.5 lbs plugged into the equation?

Problem reaching boil with my SQ-14

So I just finished trying out my new Bayou Classic SQ-14 propane burner and I had one problem. It easily heated 5 gallon of water to a rolling boil in 27 minutes, but when I removed the kettle lid I could never get it up past 210, so it never really stayed at a 'rolling boil'. I had the tank...

    Hoegaarden & Blue Moon Wits

Maybe someone can help me out with this. I love the sweet, citrusy flavor of Blue Moon and I plan on brewing a Belgian Wit soon. The other day I had my first Hoegaarden and there is an underlying spice, aftertaste I am trying to pinpoint because I don't particularly enjoy it. Is it the ground...

    Is my fermentation doomed?

So yesterday I brewed a Blonde Ale. I transfered the wort to the 5 gallon fermenter and pitched the yeast around 3:00 or so. I just realized this morning that I didn't put any water into the airlock. How will this effect my fermentation. What are the chances that it has oxidized?

So I just bottled my first porter from a hopped LME kit. I'd like to move on to a DME pale or blonde ale 5 gal. recipe next and was wondering if anyone had any good ideas. Here is what the local brewshop has in terms of light DME (which isn't much), yeast and hops: Pilsen light and Golden...
