    Brooklyn Local 1 clone recipe????

Never brewed this one, but going off of what is posted on their website and what I've heard I can venture a pretty good guess. OG: 1.070 FG: 1.003-005 85% Pilsner Malt 15% Demura Sugar hops(totally guessing): 60 min - 23 IBU total of hallertaur, pearle, styrian 5 min - .2oz of...

Losing weight and inches without giving up beer

another tip to help things out is instead of 3 big meals a day, eat 6 or so smaller, almost snack size meals. this also helps your energy levels through out the day immensely. At work after a big lunch I was always dead tired for an hour or two. Now I split my lunch into 3 parts and eat it...

Questions about adding oak chips to secondary

it was awhile ago, but I think I toasted the chips in the oven at 300 and checked on them every 5 min or so until the color was what I was looking for....totally subjective. For soaking them, cover them with just enough bourbon so they're submerged.

Questions about adding oak chips to secondary

Personally, I would advise against oak chips, instead go for some oak cubes, medium plus toast. Oak chips tend to have a one dimensional flavor and a heavier toasted oak will work much better with a RIS. (or put your oak chips in the oven until they turn a deep golden brown) Sanitizing -...

More upcoming VSS yeast info from Wyeast

theres probably a good chance of them doing 3711 as a year round offering soon. When I emailed them about how much i loved it back in January and they said they were "bringing it back in the summer and probably making it available year round beginning in 2009" Sounds like lots of other...

    Rye Saison?

Rye saison sounds excellent! But if you're looking for that distinct spicy/tangy flavor from rye bread thats mostly from the caraway seed... possibly an interesting spice addition to a saison? :mug:

    Pluot Beer????

Yeah the pluot flavor in RR's beer was not very pronounced. It was an excellent beer, nice sour tartness, with another flavor I wasn't expecting at all, but then again having never tasted a pluot I'm not quite sure what I was expecting. But your mixed berry quad is already sounding delicious!

    Limited Ingredient Saison?

I second landhoney, the standard saison I make is 80% pils, 15% munich, 5% table sugar. hop with saaz or Hallertauer as you see fit (its great that you can find those, I havent been able to get my hands on them all year) Spices range from nothing (let the yeast produce all the flavors) to...

    ALWAYS stress the signature requirement

edit: why is this in the recipe section anyways? I'm going to side with pldoolittle on this one, its not the vendors fault that the package went missing and if the signature was mandatory you'd either have to get it shipping to work (solves the problem of it going missing) or wait home all day...

    White fuzzy substance on rhizome

if you washed the mold off and planted them right away its nothing to worry about.... or at least thats what Dave from freshops assured me of.

    Possible Stupid Rhizome Question

hope it works out for you. I emailed Dave about what to do with mine since i've already planted them... his response was basically "don't worry, they'll be fine"

    Possible Stupid Rhizome Question

Chris, keep us posted, I have the same issue with the jumbo cascade i got :/ I rushed to plant it in a pot for better storage, now it looks like i'll have to dig it up and wash it with the bleach solution. fratermus I'll try to snap a picture tonight, but it basically looks like the white...

    Re: Good bars in NYC?

around midtown either the Gingerman or Stout are good calls. Although Gingerman gets some massive crowds around happy hour. further south but well worth the trip is Burp Castle, Blind Tiger (can't recommend this one enough!)

    Michigan beers to try?

in addition to whats been listed - Bells Expedition Stout is hands down one of my fav. imperial stouts You cant go wrong with any of the Dark Horse offerings, Scotty Karate, Black Bier, and the Coffee Dopplebock being some of my favorites. All their beers are just intense.

Belgian Beers - What is all the hype?

I find they have a lot of layers to them with the yeast/hops/ and occasional spices. And the more carefree/experimental nature of "what could I spice this with" and "what will a higher fermentation add to it." I find it facinating you can put so little in them but end up with these great...

    Label/ Logo Help

I like the font & color of the i.h.o.p.s. one, seems like it will fit well on a bottle and not take all the attention away from the label. For the SPS one, imo the letters are a little too skinny and is hard to read at first, if you fatten them up a tad it would read better.

    HomeBrew stores in NYC area?

there is "Hydroponics and Homebrew too" out in queens. I havent been but I hear the brewing supplies are in one corner of the store, its good if you need something in a pinch but you might not find, or have to substitute some of your ingredients. I usually mail order either from northern...
