    Check my math

My Brewers Edge Mash and Boil fried it's power cord. I need to wire in a new 1. Thinking 14 gauge. Max 1600w, 15 amps, 10-12 feet, single phase 120.

    Spunding valve talk

I've decided it's time to move to pressure fermentation and spunding valves. What advice can you give an old man about it? I'll be using ball lock kegs for it, as I have 8 and don't need more than 2 or 3 ready at 1 time. Price isn't much of an object, as initial investments usually pay off, but...

    Happy and successful 2024!

Wishing everyone a happy and healthy 2024. Hopefully it will be even better than it has been.

    Feel like a dinosaur anymore?

Anyone else feeling outdated anymore? People start talking about using centrifuges to isolate yeasts, yeast viability, percent oxygen introduction to initiate oxygenation, difference in 250 vs 300 billion yeast cells in cleaning up off-flavors... makes me wonder if the newer brewers do it for...

Anyone been to Vetterbrew in Clearwater?

I'm heading down to Clearwater, Fl next week. I haven't been to a HB store in 5 years, since I moved out to the sticks. I'll be staying about 3 miles from Vetterbrew, and have stayed in CW before, but didn't know Vetterbrew was there. To the point: Has anyone been there, and if so, how is it for...

Best recommendations for a mini-fridge for a kegerator build?

Hey all: It's time for me to build a new kegerator. I have all the parts except the mini-fridge I want to use, including the 2-tap tower, spouts, handles, etc, already. Looking for it to hold 2 5g kegs, maybe in the 4.2-4.4 cubic feet range. These change so often it's hard to keep up with the...

Milk Chocolate Stout AG vs Extract

I just ordered 2 NB Chocolate Milk Stouts; 1 Extract and 1 ag. I plan to brew them same day, same water, same ferm temps and same ferm time. I'm curious about any differences in a fairly complex brew Extract vs ag in this 1. I know there should be very little to none, but let's see how a beer...

Knowing everything right off the bat???

Does anyone else get irritated by people who have been brewing 3 months and are now experts? I've been brewing 15 years and still know very little of the craft. I'm astounded by the people who started brewing in June (example, not pointed at anyone), and know all about diastasis, best ferm...

Wanted Looking for 30 or 40 plate chiller

No secret: it gets hot here in Texas. I've been doing no-chill for years now, and I have a 50' copper IC, but it doesn't really fit my Mash'n'Boil too well. Anyway, as far as the "hot" comment: I'm looking for a used 30 or 40 plate chiller relatively cheap. Anyone have 1 they're looking to get...

    Fast delivery of ingredients?

It's been a while since I've ordered ingredients. I haven't ordered much at all (once) since the Northern Brewer/Austin Homebrew merger, and I've seen they've really slowed down on delivery times and increased prices. What sites deliver in a reasonable time (any within 3-4 days?) and for a...

Looking for NB Snow Day clone

Hey all: It's been a few years since New Belgium put out Snow Day. I was reading an old post that mentioned it, and I almost gave a Like to something someone said, then I looked at the poster's name, and it was me... LOL.... Anyway, does anyone have a good clone for it? I've looked around, and...

Beware of the Midwest Supplies 21.99 each for 3 beers

I knew this was cheap, so I carefully went through each page. I kept seeing free shipping page after page. When I made the selections and typed in the code, the cheapest shipping was $23.05. I removed the items and unsubscribed from Midwest Supplies at that point.

    Happy new year to all

Happy new year to all. May each day be better than the last, and may each brew only get better with each mug. I hope you have nothing but luck with new recipes and they taste even better than expected. Cheers...

Still decent deals if you look

Even though Hefes are my favorite, seconded by Stouts, I'll probably be getting tired of them. I just ordered enough ingredients for 30 gallons for $109. That includes buying yeast (wb06 and us05 for all 6 brews) and Munich Malt for flavoring. I already have the hops.

    Watermelon Wine with homegrown watermelons

Going to start a watermelon wine using watermelons I've grown. I have several melons (6 or 8), so more than I need. I'll probably use 2, at their size. I know about using Campden to sanitize the fruit and how to prepare it, but I'm looking for a good recipe that will give some good watermelon...

Building a Tiki Bar out back.

I've taken on a new project. It's time to build a Tiki bar. Of course the wife wants it 6-sided, which is much harder than a square bar, but isn't that what brewers are all about is taking on challenges?

    Beer brewer

In the last couple years, there has been an incredible divergence in the preference of brewing. We've seen Hazy, neipa, cold ipa, etc. You name it, it's been created and tried. Some of us still prefer the creation of "non-gentrified", ie old-style beer. I'm not slamming those of you who like...
