    2nd year plant

My 2nd Year Goldings hop plant did not grow very cones this year. I think its getting to much sun where it is. Does anyone know about how much sun they should get? Its in the most sunny part of the yard now and the some of the leaves where turning brown and falling off for a while. I think I...

    Moving Plant?

Great news. My golding hops plant I planted last spring survived the winter and is breaking though :) I was considering moving it this year however because I believe where I have it planted (the sunniest part of my yard) it was getting too much sun. Many of the leave were rather brown by...

    Pumpkin Specific Gravity

It didn't just sink i moved all around with the water. I read in this book that I have to cook it before you boil it. I cut the pumpkins up into chunks it was not a puree. However, I didn't listen to the book and I left the pumpkin in after the boil. for about a week until I transferred to...

Dark layer on top of cider.

A week ago I transferred my cider to secondary fermentation. Today I was checking it out and noticed a dark layer on top. (see picture below). I don't remember seeing it on the cider I made last year; though that was many beers ago. Anyway I was wondering what it was. My thought is it...

    Pumpkin Specific Gravity

I made a pumpkin porter today. I added the pumpkin (cooked) during the boil. And determined by difference in pre and post gravity reads adjusted and for volume. From that I concluded that my pumpkin has a PPG (sugar) of 8. Or one pound of pumpkin in one gallon of water makes a SG of 1.008...

    Harvest all at once?

So I have determined today I an going to pick my hops on my first year Goldings. They are starting a to get a little brown at the ends and they spring right back open when you squish them. This being my first year I was not sure if I should harvest them all at once or not though. Many of...

    First year hop care

Had not thought about that with the ds being against the wall. I didn't really think they are going to grow so much the first year, and I am planning on not living here next year so they were going to get moved before they got really tall I though.

    First year hop care

This is my first year growing hops. All I have is one Kent Goldings, which I am currently growing organically not sure if I will keep that up or not. I have two bines (no idea why they are not called vines) one is about 9 feet tall and the other is about 5.5 feet tall. They look very healthy...

    Should I pinch new yeast?

Alright alright I guess I did know I should just wait longer. :) While I have this tread going. I have another beer that has been aging/carbonating since the end of March. Its a strawberry lemon (all fruit no extract) wheat creation of my own. Its a modified version that I made last summer...

    Should I pinch new yeast?

Well I was planing on letting it age longer I was just hopping it would be carbonated when its done aging though. I did open only one bottle though I would say the sugar was mixed in very well. I guess saying no signs of carbonation might have been a little strong there were bubbles coming...

    Should I pinch new yeast?

I made the Lefse Blond kit from NB (http://www.northernbrewer.com/brewing/recipe-kits/all-grain-kits/all-grain-ale-kits/lefse-blonde-all-grain-kit.html) a few weeks ago. After being in the primer for 9 days and secondary for 12 days I bottled with corn sugar dissolved in water however it...

    Hard Ice Tea

Yeah, I have been sweetening it with with that powdered ice tea mix stuff when I drink it. I find that to be the best since its also adds more tea flavor which mine could use.
