    Dishwasher doesn't clean pint glasses

The title says it all. My pint glasses go into the dishwasher with a bit of lacing and they come out covered in bits of food, water marks and random bits of other things. It's really frustrating and I have had to throw many glasses away because this stuff won't even come off with a good soak...

    Blow off Tube Length

Hey gang, Has anyone had any issue with the length of their blow off tube slowing fermentation? I pitched a good size slurry and aerated properly, but fermentation is going much slower than normal. The only change to my setup is the length of the blowoff tube; I have about 3 extra feet in the...

BG14 orifice and shutter too loose??

Hey guys, I just got a bg14 in the mail along with a 10' hose and 30 psi regulator from amazon. I know I need to make sure the orifice is not too tight to allow movement of the shutter. However, the only way for the shutter to still be able to move is to leave the orifice barely finger tight...

    Pumping from mash tun cooler

My Christmas present came in the mail today, a March 809:ban: I have a single tier setup with a cooler MLT, just don't have the funds yet to convert another keg to a MLT. I know it is possible to pump from the MLT to the BK, but how do I tell the level of wort left in the cooler to try and avoid...

    Cloudy Wort

I made my 4th all grain beer yesterday; Jamils Janet's Brown. I mashed at 154 for an hour and vorlaufed over 1 gallon for both runnings. There were no grain particles going into the boil kettle, but the wort was really cloudy, it almost looked like bits of chunky flour floating about. This is...

Is my Belgian Wit ready for secondary?

Hey guys, So I made a Belgian wit about 2 weeks ago with WYL400 and I forgot to take an OG reading before pitching a 1L starter. My OG after pitching was 1030. It has been in primary for 2 weeks and stopped bubbling about 5 days ago. I just took another reading and I'm down to 1012. Should I...

    Bowed front to MLT

So I have been dropping about 7-10 on my 60 minutes mashes lately and I couldnt figure out why until this Saturday morning when it was cold outside and I saw steam escaping from my Coleman MLT right by the front handle. Turns out the entire front of the cooler is bowed out and this creates about...

    Naturally Carbonating a Pumpkin

It's that time of the year again and I am thinking about doing a pumpkin ale! My idea this year is to actually try and natural carbonate the beer in a large pumpkin and then tap it, with some kind of hammer-in tap, at our annual Halloween party:mug:. I have never naturally carbonated anything...

    Fermentation Guide

Has anyone come across a fermentation guide? I have seen the posters in my LHBS that list the yeast strain and the fermentation temp, but Im looking for something that lists the length of fermentation for different styles. Sorry if this might have already been discussed, I couldnt find...

    10 Plate Chiller for $45.00?

Found this on Amazon for $45.00. Is this worth the money, or should I hold out and buy the Shirron for $100? Is one more plate really worth 55 bucks? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0039WRMKC/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20

    Burner Flam isn't constant

I recently purchased a KAB4 propane burner and its pretty awesome. However, I am having a problem keeping the flame from going out. Even on days when there is no wind, one half of the burner will go out with in 5 minutes if lighting and then slowly the entire burner will burn out as the propane...

    5 Gallon Recipe Questions

A majority of recipes I have seen are for are 5 gallon batches. I am an all grain brewer and I want to sparge 6.5 gallons so after evaporation from boiling, trub loss, etc. I will have 5 gallons to keg. I was thinking of just sparging 6.5 gallons but if the recipe is calculating grain amounts...
