Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

The only thing I can recommend is cleaning the connections with some canned air and contact cleaner. If all the solder looks good then it's possible some dirt/dust/gunk has built up in the female end. I'm not an electrical expert but contact cleaner has worked wonders for me on several devices...

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

Just a quick update. I brewed yesterday and had no issues. I guess tightening the connections and maybe blowing out the controller worked.

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

Well, the test went fine in mashing mode. Started at 130F and increased in increments of 10 degrees, making sure temps stabilized and stayed that way for at least 10 minutes each time., all the way to 180F. Then I switched to boil mode and things started out well but after it hit the boil it...

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

Good idea. I just checked continuity with my multimeter and didn’t find any issues. Also plugged the cable into the controller and tested continuity from the cable to the EZ boil in case it was the panel jack and again no issues. I did clean all the contacts on the temp probe and the female end...

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

Thanks Holmes. I plan on opening it up next chance I get. This controller doesn’t see a whole lot of action lately and it doesn’t get moved around a lot but I wouldn’t doubt that since I built it myself there might be a loose connection.

Thanks! That was my best guess so I already ordered a new cable.

Auber EZ boil temp readings drifting/failure question

Hey Dland, Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I’m having similar issues. Temp seems to read ok for a while but then goes way high, most notably during the boil where I too was getting readings of around 240.

    Keggle for Sale - NJ - $150

Hi folks, I’m moving on to electric, single vessel, BIAB soon so that means I have a few things to find new homes for. Today I'm looking to unload my trusty keggle built for me by a well-known and respected member of the homebrewing community. As you can see it includes a sight glass...

    Fermwrap - 2 for 1?

I've been using these for a couple years with Johnson temp controllers with no issues. I've gotten them covered in blowoff and wort and whatever else might be around the brewery without a problem. They work great and clean up great too. Of course, with any electrical thingamabob be careful if...

Help, I think I've got 9 gallons of diacetyl IPA..

Maybe what you're tasting can be described more like a toffee flavor? I've heard this can often be confused for the buttery flavor of diacetyl. What was your boil like? It's possible you may have carmelized the wort a bit. Just a thought...

My beer has been carbing for almost 2 weeks now, and it still seems flat.

Also make sure you are reading the temp of the beer, not the ambient fridge temp. Unless you are using a controller taking the beer's temp your beer might not be as cold as you think. Even so, eventually it will carb to some level but you might have to adjust the pressure a bit to get it where...

Corny Kegs on eBay (Not mine)

I bought two pallets (40 total kegs) from this company a couple of months ago. They are a legit beverage distributor and by contacting them directly you do get a better deal but you are also dealing with a reputable company, not some random individual. No need to worry about not being covered...

    Yeast starter questions

Check the "package date" for your yeast in Beersmith. It sometimes defaults to some wacky dates and my guess is it is probably at least 6 months off. Here is someone who had this problem very recently: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f84/beersmith-yeast-overload-304485/

Extremely Low OG - need help

Weird...and all your vessels are properly calibrated? Thinking maybe you have more volume than you think you do...but it would take a lot more water to account for a 30pt difference at the end...although really crappy efficiency (I'm talking REALLY crappy like 40% or less) combined with even...

Extremely Low OG - need help

This may sound like a condescending question but it's not meant to be so please don't take offense! Are the grains crushed? I've heard stories of people with similar problems who found out later that they had forgotten to crush the grains! Unlikely, I know, but just in case!

    Star san users

If you want it to last as long as possible then distilled water is the way to go. Any hardness in the water will cause the solution to become cloudy which is usually considered an indication that the effectiveness has been reduced. I use distilled water and store it in a decommissioned Ale...

Best way to keep keezer from freezing?

I went with the 11" width and about 2ft, which is pretty much the same size as the Fermwraps. You'll also need the wire/clip/insulator set. If you have an old extension cord lying around you can cut the outlet end off and use that in place of the wire they sell. Then just get the...
