    Turning 40 this year...

And I am looking to mark the occasion with a celebratory ale. I was thinking Pliny the Elder. What do you guys think?

    Anyone used a bucket heater?

I saw this one on Amazon and was wondering if anyone had used this to heat up water for mashing or sparging? Isn't this basically a manufactured heat stick that I have seen all around the DIY sections? And if you have used them, have you compared the cost to that of a DIY heat stick?

    Forgot about a beer...

I know, I know. But it happened. I made a Kolsch that I totally misjudged the final volume on and ended up making what can only be described as an Imperial Kolsch. I was downtrodden but figured RDW etc. So I racked it to secondary and tucked it away in a corner and have forgotten about it...

    Itching to brew something...

but unfortunately, I can as all of my fermenters (a whole whopping 3 of them) are full. To add insult to injury, I have the ingredients for 2 more brews just hanging out. :(. Just needed to vent to those who may also feel/ have felt my pain.

    Is this right?

I brewed a kolsch just shy of 2 weeks ago. It was a great brew day except that the boil was a little more vigorous that I thought and my 5 gallons became about 3.75. Pre-pitch my gravity was 1.068 (I guess I was going for Imperial) and I pitched WLP German Kolsch yeast (2 vials) @ 68 deg...

    BIAB draining question

What techniques do you guys use to drain the wort from BIAB? I spin it to create pressure on the grains, but how long are you supposed to wait? For my last 2 batches I have been super high on my grain absorption and my gravities have been way high (1.086 when it should have been 1.052). My...

    What is this stuff?

So I brewed Ed Wort's Bavarian Hefeweizen from Brewmasters Warehouse (great service btw) and it has been in primary for about 10 days now. So last night I went down to grab a gravity reading and there was a thick yellow-ey gelatinous layer on top. It sort of looked like a compacted krausen...

    1st All Grain...and it was a doozy

So I decided to make the jump to All Grain since I have been reading about how the BIAB (with Dunk Sparge) has had great success. So I got a 5 gallon cooler and some paint strainer bags and decided that a SMaSH would be a easy jump in to the deep end. So I went to the LHBS and got 10lbs Pale Ale...

Ain't as good as I once was...

So I decided (last minute on Sunday) to brew a Belgian Tripel kit that I had laying around. This is my 5th brew so while I am new I am not totally new. Anyway, I am having nice little brew session and am just cooking away when I realize that I don't have a hydrometer with me. I look around...

    Homebrew tech from a pharmacy?

I was googling for some cheap equipment and noticed this site Shrivers Pharmacy, For That Extra Service and Good Health, Think of Us - Zanesville. It looks like they have a ton of stuff at some very reasonable prices (compared to the LHBS). Has anyone used them before? Do they have crazy...

    Hello from Dublin, OH

Just thought I would throw my hat in to the ring as well. I have been lurking here for a while. Getting back in the mix after a good 10 years away (5 kids will do that). I just finished up a partial mash Dead Guy clone (learned alot about yeast amounts too :(). But I'm learning a ton and...
