Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

I just cut them straight in the length of the rollers. Even did it with the rollers in place in the pasta maker. Use the re-inforced discs. Make sure to wear eye-protection! Those blades are notorious for shattering, esp the regular cut-off discs. Think i might have used 5 discs on it all...

Using a pasta maker to mill grain.

I took a dremel and cut grooves all along the rollers. They are nice and rough, and never had to re-gouge my rollers. Here i am a few hundred #'s of malt later and it is still going. For what it's worth, i don't run my drill full speed though. Nice and low and slow and the rollers have plenty...

    Fermcap S conclusion?

What are these Baby Gas Drops you mentioned? Is it similar to the fermcap/ defoamers? Is it cheaper/more easily available? More info please :D

    Fermcap S conclusion?

Do you use a stir-plate? If that would be the case then the reason it seems to carry over is because the stirplate gets it suspended again after it settles out in the cooling process, which is what i would expect.

E-HLT question (water heater element/plastic cooler)

I have a (very long) 5500W element ran through the side of my cooler without any leakage/issues at all, so it is possible. Wouldn't see why yours couldn't seal up since mine has more strain on it due to gravity and it being horizontal. Is the surface you seal to nice and flat? Just the o-ring...

    Fermcap S conclusion?

Thanks for the reply. I would suspect if you put the fermcap in the boil for the starter, when using a stirplate it would get suspended again, eliminating the need for a drop to prevent krausen. That would confirm you not getting krausen with your stir-plate. Depending on the yeast you can get...

    Fermcap S conclusion?

Ok, been going through all the threads a bit, and was hoping to summarize the info and make sure i got this straight. Fermcap S (or similar foam controls) -can add to the BK. About 6+ drops for 5 gal. batch. When cooling, fermcap will settle in the trub and get discarded. -can add to starter...

    supply cord connectors

Have the e-keggle up and running now for a while, but was wanting to be able to take my supply cord off to make my electrical toolbox more mobile. I have one of those GFCI cords off ebay on it, and it's very stiff. question is, will these connectors i found on ebay work for me...

240VAC Toolbox Control Panel with Pics

Say PassedPawn, i'm trying to understand something here.. I am looking at the toggle switch you got from digikey, and looking at the specs it says it's rated 25A-125V How is that able to work for us then, if we run about 23A with a 5500W at 240V element? Reason i am asking, at the hardware...

An affordable option to building an all electric system?

I agree.. i can't take any credit for any of my items in my setup.. it's all inspired by HBT members. I was thinking of doing a proper thread later on with pic and thanks to all the members that helped/inspired/gave advice, but for now i will thank these members right here.. thanks (in no...

Any software reach water temps correctly?

Beersmith used to get me spot-on everytime with the set-up i used to use.. now with my new kettle i transfer with a hose into my MLT and end up 15-20 low.. so i aim higher. Alot of it is getting to know your equipment. So keep track of temps and volumes, make sure you hit 'em and you'll know...

An affordable option to building an all electric system?

Wildwest, the electric part of the electric brewery is really not that bad. I knew not much about electric myself, and educated myself. I started with Pol's Bling-thread, and that's what i used for my basis.. and am growing from there on. It really took alot of reading all the different threads...

What is your all time favorite summer brew?

Biermuncher's Centennial Blonde right now.. nice and crisp and refreshing when you're hot and sweaty.. Plus it's easy and cheap to make, so plenty of it for buddies :) Then i'll get burned out on it and probably switch to a nice pilsner (ale) or something.. :cross: Couldn't really give...

    Is my SS braid ruined?

That braid looks in excellent condition compared to mine.. Mine looks like my dogs chewed on it. I hit it a few times every mash probably, just force it back to normal a little. Besides, that is what vorlauf is for, the little chunks of grain will go through it and you recycle to the top, big...

    time for a new smoker

Traegers are good for smoking.. (expensive for a smoker) I made excellent pork-butt, brisket, ham, deer-shoulder on it. Best part, set it and forget it (temp) They say they're also good for regular grilling, but they suck at it. I'll use my regular charcoal grill for brats, steaks...

How mash tun infusion temperatures work.

hmmmm.. i think i will definately have to try this.. Since i have my new e-keggle i have ended with my mash about 15-20 degrees low, caused by transfer by tube and/or bucket. I used to just dump my strikewater heated up in my turkey-fryer into my cooler and always was spot on with what...
