    faucet and tap rebuild parts?

go a used "working" kegerator this weekend - a good deal even the druggie that sold it thought he was snookering me for some quick cash. Taking apart the faucet and tower I found it to be filthy! and the O-rings and gaskets crumbling - and the seller just finished a 15 gal keg of...

    Continually Missing Target OG

the amount of water boiled off is influenced by a lot of factors the biggest thing is the amount of heat you put into the pot - the flame minor contributors are the humidity, wind, volume in the vessel So, boil down to a volume But if you are addicted to following a time schedule, back add...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Peppercorn-rye Bock

from my experience with rye you will need a protein rest unless you like staying up all night while the filter drips ever so slowly but then staying up all night with SWMBO is a good way to take your mind off the stuck mash

    MLT brewpot question

no pic possible until the next time I brew most of my equipment is multipurpose (except the 6 gal filter bucket and wort cooling coil) so at the end of the day the whole set-up is dissembled. I made a drawing but cannot attach it. email? john

    AG vs Extract: Less Farts?

hey cnbudz - no offense intended at all but remember that typing cabability and access to the internet at all times of the day are not what imparts wisdom - even in the world of homebrewers. Everybody farts, some hold it so as not to offend, others let fly and laugh. How much that has to do with...

    MLT brewpot question

Save your arm and prevent scorching at the same time by using a 3/4" variable speed drill and a sheetrock mud stirrer (Home Depot). I suspend this over my brewpot (on the propane burner) by duct taping it to my 6' step ladder. I use a twisted wire around the trigger to maintain the speed (w/o...

    MLT brewpot question

How about installing your filter in the plastic bucket (this would be one less transfer), and then filter back into your kettle? I have a 10 gal brew pot where I do my direct heat mashing (no hot water additions and calculations), transfer to my 6 gal plastic filter bucket (SS braid/hose is the...

    AG vs Extract: Less Farts?

only on rare occasion - and they don't stink either - wink, wink

    Proper Water/Grain Ratio

I used to do the 5 gal cooler, then a 6 gal wrapped pail - just skip it and mash in a 5-10 gal pot with direct heat and stirring It is a lot easier set up and the control is easier than you think You don't have to worry about starting real thick or running out of room trying to heat it up. my 2¢

    AG vs Extract: Less Farts?

This is why this forum has not advanced into the highbrow crowd! Where is the uplifting moderation? Is there room only for newbies sharing anecdotes? but I'm still reading .... I guess I still like to have fun too :mug: BTW, SWMBO allows me to pass gas in the bathroom or outside and I'm...

    Wort chiller water wastage

IC's work best with agitation the more you mix up the wort with a spoon or the chiller, the better I cool 5 gal from 195F to 80F in 15 min with 25 ft of 3/8 copper running 68F well water (I wash down my porch with the initial, extremely hot water, which then runs off to my plants)

    Avoiding Blow-offs

I posted this same thing already this morning..... Lower Fermenting temperature. Healthy yeast are more active at cooler temperatures than other microbes. So by cooling to 50F (rather than the usual 70F) you give the yeast a leg up on anything else that might have gotten in. Then when you let...

    Does 6 Gal. Primary = Blow-off?

Lets remember that the MOST important thing in a primary is CLEANLINESS! Buckets, plastic bottles, SS tanks or glass carboys must be absolutely free of life from when you introduce the wort until you add the yeast. The unfermented wort is a perfect soup ready to let many things grow - that is...

    Blue Moon clone recipe?

I am a heavy, malty beer brewer/drinker who had been turned off of wheat beers by a few German Weizenbrau years ago and never went back ... until this past week. I had a Blue Moon belguim wheat beer and liked it. Enough to buy a 12 pack. Now does anyone have a clone recipe they care to share? I...

    Dry-Hemping

When I lived in Switzerland a few years ago (where the police look the other way to homegrown cannabis), a native Swiss, home brewing friend of mine would periodically make some "weed beer" substituting his home grown cannabis for hops. His hopped beers were better. But interestingly, his beer...
