Beersmith Mashing Profile for stovetop partial mash

I'm considering purchasing Beersmith to record/manage my brewing. I'm planning some partial mashes and I'd like to follow Deathbrewers stovetop partial mash method: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-partial-mash-brewing-pics-75231/ Is there a way to configure a mashing profile for...

    Huge boil over

+2 for barkeepers friend. Amazing what this stuff can do to even the toughest stains on stainless.

ok, rack this up to a noob mistake...

actually cooking is fantastic with it. I'm still a huge fan of induction cooktops, but it just won't work for brewing large batches o beer. The stovetop is very powerful (it's large element delivers somewhere around 36K BTU directly to the pot but with virtually no heat escaping up the side as...

ok, rack this up to a noob mistake...

So I've done some partial boil extract brews with lots of success, and figured I'd do a full size boil on my induction stovetop. I had tested boiling 6.5 gallons of water previously, and it worked soso with a rolling boil going on and off every 5-10 seconds or so. (which I've learned is...

    Advice On Ss Kettles!!!

I bought that Winco SST-40 at Wasserstrom for $78.89. (shipping & tax came to $17 though) But it looks like it's out of stock there now. http://www.wasserstrom.com/restaurant-supplies-equipment/Product_562533 It's definitely a nicely made pot for the money with an aluminum layer...

    Brewing with kids?

my 8 and 5 year old boys love to help with bottling. The 5 year old works the bottle washer, the 8 year old fills them up with the bottle filler. I cap them. My wife just rolls her eyes cause all they want to do is help daddy. :)

how hard of a rolling boil do I need?

cool, thx. I'll give it a try with my next brew. I'm extract brewing right now, but would slowly like to get into partials and all grains. I really hope I can do all this on my stovetop.

how hard of a rolling boil do I need?

I was testing my new kettle on my induction stovetop yesterday to see if I will be able to do full boils on the stovetop. I was able to get 6.5 gallons of tap water to a boil from 60F to 212F in 45 minutes. I know I'm not going to break any land speed records with that, but I guess it will get...

79.99 good price for a brew kettle?

I got a 10 gallon stainless steel pot for $78 at Wasserstrom. I felt it was alot, but it has magnetic stainless on the bottom which I need for my induction stovetop and has an encapsulated aluminum layer which distributes the heat better to prevent scorching.

bavarian style hefe to bottles in a week??

thx for the feedback, I'll let you know. Truth be told I was a bit disapointed in this kit. The two other kits I've made had specialty grains and smelled amazing when I was brewing them. This kit was kinda meh from that point of view. Hopefully the taste will make up for it.

bavarian style hefe to bottles in a week??

thx for all the responses on this thread. I did take an OG reading so I know where I'm starting from. It was at 1.044 (vs the 1.045-1.049 they claim so I may not have gotten as much of the LME out as I needed, and I made 5 and 1/8th gallon instead of 5 gallons) From the feedback above, I...

bavarian style hefe to bottles in a week??

I bought a bavarian style Hefeweizen kit from truebrew as I wanted to try working with liquid extract. It's currently in the primary fermenter. The instructions say to bottle after 7 days. After reading alot of advise on this forum I think I'd like to rack to a secondary for 2 weeks and then...

    final gravity question

Hey Bob, yes your suspicions are correct. I pitched only one smackpack. (smacked about 4 hours before pitching). I'm learning about starters and will use one next time. Temps of the fermenter have been right on the edge of 60. We're expecting some warmer weather later this week which...

    final gravity question

wanted to give a quick update. I swirled my beer a bit to re-suspend the yeast, and after a couple of days have now reached a gravity of 1.012 (checked over two days) So I guess it was a bit stuck and got moving again.
