    Therminator, March 809HS-PL and Stirrer

    Hey guys, sorry about any delayed responses. The response was a little overwhelming and I let my membership lapse so I have the limited inbox. The Therminator has been sold but the pump and stirrer are still available. I am going to work my way down the thread in order of who posted first...

    Therminator, March 809HS-PL and Stirrer

    All in good working condition. Therminator and pump were used maybe ten times. They have been shelved for over a year and will need to be thoroughly cleaned. The Therminator includes the backflush hose. The pump has a brass ball valve and with 1/2 inch brass quick disconnects. I will include all...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    So I noticed there was some rustish type substance forming around the base and threads of the heating element. I ordered some food-grade high temperature rtv silicone, I plan to encase the base of the element in that after scrapping the rust off. I got the sealant on the web as I don't want to...

    Full volume boil on stovetop, help!

    The only thing stopping me from using insulation is the fact that I have a gas stove. I am a little paranoid about starting a fire or even catching the insulation on fire. We are bird lovers and have 5 parrots. Their lungs are VERY sensitive to contaminants. If I end up going fully electric I...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    So I finished my 1500W 120v heat stick last night and tested it out today. I was able to get 6.5 gallons to a boil on the stove with burner and heatstick. I started at about 50 degrees and got to a boil in about an hour. I should be able to go from mash temps to boil in about 25-30 minutes...

    Full volume boil on stovetop, help!

    Hey Guys, So I made a simple 1500W heatstick and was able to get 6.5 gals up to a hard boil. I highly recommend this option over insulation. It was simple to build and if you take the proper precautions it is very safe.

    Full volume boil on stovetop, help!

    I spoke to my landlord and there is a 20 amp circuit that my fridge runs on. The fridge runs about 6 amps. I picked up all the goodies to make a 1500w 120v(12 amp) heat stick. This seemed like the path of least resistance right now. This should be built for the weekend and I will be able to...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    I looked back a few pages and saw the reducing nut. Found it at McMaster if anyone is still looking for one. http://www.mcmaster.com/#slip-joint-nuts/=61uud6

    Heatstick = awesome!

    Hey Guys, I was purchasing the items I need to make a heat stick earlier and I noticed that the nut on the waste tubing is zinc plated. I thought that zinc was not food safe and posed a health risk. Do they even make stainless or chromed nuts for this tubing?

    Full volume boil on stovetop, help!

    I am going to try out my 30quart aluminium turkey fryer pot tonight, with just water. It is 3 inches shorter in diameter and 3 inches taller. I don't want to use aluminium as it is a little higher maintenance but I am interested if the size of the pot makes much difference.

    Full volume boil on stovetop, help!

    I am looking for another pot to do some tests with. I have a megapot from northern brewer and the pot is a bit wide. I think using a taller/narrower pot might have less heat loss.

    Full volume boil on stovetop, help!

    Hey Guys, I am having trouble getting 6 gallons of wort to boil on my gas stove. I can get up to around 205 degrees. This is an 8 gallon kettle sitting across two burners. I have looked into insulating the kettle but this would be expensive and a potential fire-hazard. I am in a third floor...

    Keg Parka?

    Has anyone used a keg parka before? I am getting ready for the spring/summer and would like to take my brew to picnics and bbqs. I have looked at jockey boxes, but that might be a bit of overkill. I was also considering the party pig and the pig pen but I already have kegs and would rather stick...

    Where to find 5 and 10 gallon coolers!

    I am ready to go all grain and I wanted to work on tanks this weekend but I can't find any local stores that seem to have them. I would rather get them locally if possible. I suppose I could use a rectangular cooler but I seem to think I would get less efficiency perhaps? I have found the 5...

    DIY Spunding Valve

    And yes, the fitting is 1/4 flare. I will be connecting this to a flare, ball-lock gas disconnect.

    DIY Spunding Valve

    The gauge was $10.28, you could probably do better. It seems like its made well enough. The housing of it is plastic and could break if you stepped on it or dropped it thought.

    Stir Plate in fridge?

    Has anyone had luck using a stirplate inside of a fridge? It is pretty hot this time of year (around 80 degrees). I will be starting an Oktoberfest lager next week and want to get a starter going around optimal temperature(around 55 degrees). Anyone have luck using a stir plate inside a fridge...

    First Brew, Stuck Fermentation?

    According to today's reading its down to 1.016, little more to go and I noticed a little bit of bubbling action still going on. I guess I just got a little excited!

    First Brew, Stuck Fermentation?

    Hey guys I'm new here and just started my first batch. I got a Cream Ale ingredient kit from Northern Brewer and followed the instructions very close. I did a yeast starter about 2 days before the brew. Used a wort chiller, pitched my starter at around 70 degrees and fermentation started off...
