Wonder what I caught in the backyard.

I made a starter on Oct. 4th and set it outside for around 36 hours. Here's what is growing in it now. That picture is a couple days old. The pellicule is really fluffy now. It really smells like brett (to me)... But I'm wondering what I grabbed.. which of course, is really hard to...

    My 240V Build Thread

I've been all electric for awhile now. That is of course, if you count the electric stove as part of the "build." I've been using a 120V e-RIMS for the better part of my brewing history. I finally decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to a completely stand alone 240V brew rig. It may be...

    Question about amp draw

I'm converting my rig from stove/e-rims to a full 240V e-HLT, e-RIMS, and e-Kettle build. Just been racking my brain on how many Amps I'd be drawing when 2 elements are on I'm planning on using 3500W 240V elements in the kettle and HLT. So those would pull 14.58A at 240V. In my RIMS...

Ew, look at my RIMS element

I pulled it out today after I don't know how many batches. Surprisingly, it was still working! What's weird is I always run pbw and saniclean through it for about an hour after each brew. It looks to be rectorseal and caramelized sugars all over the element.

    My electric build.

I consider my brewery all electric... Even though, the boiling part is handled by an electric stove ;) I finally finished my last build until we decide to move to a new house, then I will probably redo ALL of it and have an E-HLT, and E-Kettle in the mix. But here's the shot of my compact...

My RIMS Build... Almost ready to run.

I was building an E-HERMS build, but learned two major things: Coolers are expensive, especially when you hack two of them up beyond repair. It is hard to fix a leaking cooler. (Well for me it was!) The inspiration for me to go "waste" more money on this hobby was Sawdustguy's RIMS for...

    My E-HERMS build.. have question

First a shot of the coil mounted in the "test" cooler... aka the hacked up unusable cooler My question is this, would this be a good placement for the coil and element? I do have a 200RPM gear motor for an agitator... Just want to make sure my placement of the coil and element are good since...

New lagering chamber and a question

Got this last week and finally had a chance to hook up my thermostat and get it all situated and ready for use. Fits my carboys perfectly after adding the domed lid Now my question, that brew in there hasn't shown any signs of fermentation in three days now. I didn't use a starter. Which...

    Quick question

Is there a way I can add lasting sweetness to a brew without affecting gravity? I've been using 1# lactose because I know I'm not intolerant.... but I have a lot of friends that cannot drink it.... I know potassium sorbate is used in wine. I guess that would be fine for kegging. But that...

    Finally... a much higher efficiency!

I've done about 4 all grain brews so far, and have gotten anywhere from about 60%-66% efficiency. (This was with my crappy homemade copper sparge arm) Brewed up my kolsch recipe today, and switched to batch sparging. Needless to say, much faster. And i boosted my efficiency to 77%...

    My DIY Fermentation Chamber

I'm no carpenter by any means... But I thought I'd share what I was working on my lazy-sunday. Ran out of insulation. But I have to go scavenge a few 120mm fans from my computer hardware stash and cut the holes in the divider wall. I should be able to finish this thing off in the next...

    My setup... minus the stove

Just got into homebrewing about a month ago and went all out... finally got my whole setup done What do you people think? That's my chocolate orange stout in the bottles... And the best of both worlds of liquor and beer on tap! (Just happen to be out of the jager)

    Super-Kleer ???

I've been browsing the forums for a bit now, but haven't posted. I'm on my 4th batch of homebrew now (Apple Kolsch). This is the first time that I decided to use Super Kleer. I put it in the secondary last night. I have only been bottle conditioning (just ordered my kegging supplies). I...
