Bag Worm Control - BT, Sevin, etc?

Okay thanks for pointing that out -- I'll light them up one night this week... I've been throwing them into the chiminea for lack of a better disposal location.

Bag Worm Control - BT, Sevin, etc?

That's a good idea, I will look into that! We have black eyed susans in the area too, but they don't seem to go into bloom until well into June or even July... which I believe is considerably after the larvae start spinning their bags... I'm picking the bags ... though haven't had a need to...

Bag Worm Control - BT, Sevin, etc?

Thanks I'll check both of those options out for next year... I think I ought to be able to get through this year with just picking them off the hops. It really seems like they're coming off the arborvitaes and onto the hops; when I cut open the bag the worm does not seem to be very healthy...

Bag Worm Control - BT, Sevin, etc?

Hello all, hoping you can give me some input here ... I built an arbor to grow my hops on over the gate to the swimming pool. I know it's probably not the most optimal setup for hop yield, and I don't prune very many bines, but it's more for decoration than brewing purposes - the hop harvest...

CO2 Fermenter for Fish Tank/Aquarium, from Carboy?!

I've got a keg setup so I could just pipe in bottled CO2, but where's the fun in that?! ;) I don't have any fish in there at the moment, just plants. Might be worth a shot for the next beer, just to see what happens! I like the idea of the holding tank, I'll give that a shot if I end up...

CO2 Fermenter for Fish Tank/Aquarium, from Carboy?!

Was debating posting this in the actual homebrew/Fermentation section, but figured it might not exactly be best suited for that area. I have an aquarium with a good number of live plants that seem like they could use a little boost, so it was suggested I pump some CO2 into the tank with...

    A Motorcycle Kegerator

WOW. just wow. That's awesome! I suppose if you were to unhook a quick disconnect, then nobody could possibly claim it's an "open container" I think I am going to have to share this on the motorcycle forums I'm a member on!

My first year Cents have buds in NJ!

LOL come on over! Plus I'm building a kegerator -- I'm finding lots of people that want to be friends! :p

My first year Cents have buds in NJ!

Mine shot up a whole bunch of bines... I tried thinning some out and tossed the pullings on the other side of the fence. It looks like they took root, so now I have a bunch of smaller crops all over the place ... wasn't expecting that! Good luck with your pale when the time comes! :mug:

My first year Cents have buds in NJ!

Thanks, I'll have to grab some shots of the whole thing once I get home. Where'd your rhizomes come from this year? Mine were from Freshops and they seemed very plump and healthy. Weren't even the first pick of the litter either; I ordered fairly late.

My first year Cents have buds in NJ!

Hey all, Planted these in the middle of April, more as an excuse to build a nice arbor by the pool rather than grow hops :p but they seem very healthy! They are Centennials. I was afraid they were going to get too much water from all the rain we've been having here in Central NJ, but I...

Turkey Fryer on Craiglist - worth it?

For frying turkeys? it's probably great. For brewing? good luck cleaning all that caked on grease off the thing.. that looks like more trouble than it's worth IMO.

What styles can you not drink?

I don't have any information to refute that. I suppose my judgment of these is due to only drinking them at room temperature, in a dark smoke filled dank basement, from a plastic cup with a pingpong ball in it that was just on the floor rolling around in cigarette butts and god knows what...

What styles can you not drink?

Interesting! I'm just now starting to look into beer pairings with cigars. Up until this point I've primarily stuck with bourbon and whiskeys (I don't care for scotch). I tried several times to pair smoked beers with cigars figuring it would be a natural combination, but i just don't like...

What styles can you not drink?

I actually don't mind Bud whatsoever. I actually enjoy Bud, and Busch. :mug: Anything lower than that on the AB totem pole (Natty Light) is just garbage. I don't think you're allowed to drink that once you're past age 20 anyway. I really don't care too much for Miller and Coors though...

Turkey Fryer on Craiglist - worth it?

I bought my turkey fryer setup new from Value City for $20. Marked down from 60. The aluminum pot is okay... it dents easily. Haven't tried the burner outside yet; been too cold and just brewing inside on the range.

    Kegerator build

Excellent write up! Just to be clear -- You were able to fit TWO corny kegs AND a 5# CO2 tank in there without removing anything from the door except the storage compartments? I've read other conversions that involved removing that entire front panel from the door and replacing it with...

"High" gravity fermentation steps, fast then slow?

Oh good, thanks for the reassurance! I'm still new to this, but going to be sticking with it. Hopefully this batch is going to get kegged.

"High" gravity fermentation steps, fast then slow?

Hey everyone, About a month ago, I successfully brewed my first beer with the info I found here, a very nice IPA. It was a recipe from the LHBS, and I followed it to the T. It was a fairly low OG, at 1.045. I fermented in an opaque bucket with an airlock, so I couldn't see what was...
