    ahbs super brew pot question

I want one of these so bad! How is the mounting height of the dip tube? Is it high enough to leave the trub and hops at the bottom after the boil?

    Briess Cherrywood Smoked Malt

drinking a smoked ipa made w/ 1#... noticing a little smoke flavor and aroma (little) but a sweetness I've never had before in any beer. The smoke compliments the beer nicely, but I'm not loving the sweetness... but it's only been 2 days in keg :)

re-using yeast from a smoked beer... does smoke flavor carry through?

Thanks! I took some yeast from the smoke beer (which after tasting has virtually no smoke flavor... will use more then one pound of smoke malt next time). I never knew how yeast washing worked until now, very cool to learn something new.

re-using yeast from a smoked beer... does smoke flavor carry through?

Wondering if I should re-use the yeast cake from my smoked ipa (which had 1lb smoked malt in it) for a regular ipa. Anyone have experience re-using yeast from a smoked beer? Does the flavor carry through? I was going to use fresh yeast, but i just noticed a tiny fly or bug of some sort in my...

Do cartridge filters work for anyone? They aren't working for me!

I really liked the idea of being able to spend 1hr filtering and get a beer that had so to speak 'instant age' where a filter pulled out things that would normally fall out over a few weeks. Figured that would totally be worth my time. But my system or my process is not working. I do filter...

Do cartridge filters work for anyone? They aren't working for me!

This is my filter And this is the result. My 1 micron filtered beer is on the left looking totally hazy. The beer on the right is for comparison, it's a commercial beer (Maui Brewing IPA). If I filter with a 1 micron filter should not my beer be clear? I don't think the cartridge system...

    Any Tips On Using Honey

What about cold crashing or killing off the yeast entirely so they can't ferment the honey then take out a couple pints, pasteurize the honey in it (or just pasteurize the honey in water) and then add that back to the secondary or keg? That should give some bright fresh honey flavor shouldn't it?

Dry hop to counter extreme grapfruit

Amazing, totally different with time. Grapefruit is almost gone! Dry hopped w/ what I had/could find, so Cascade, Simcoe and Styrian Goldings (very sweet and floral). Something went wrong w/ the keg a couple weeks in and it leaked out all but 1gal before I noticed. Sucks, but now I have an...

    Thirsty Goat Amber Ale

This is fun, and I'm happy w/ it, in fact tonight there was a Hawaii Nui in the fridge, but I chose this! It's almost all gone! It's a really easy drinking beer. I've been having one or two most every night since it carbed. I think more crystal, less chocolate, an English ale yeast plus a...

Dry hop to counter extreme grapfruit

Pacific Gem sounds interesting, that ones new to me. Just read a little about it, it gives a blackberry flavor, wow. Wish I could find a place to order it from, that might be perfect for this beer. I tried all my usual online stores, none have it. Was also thinking of Cascade, which I have...

Dry hop to counter extreme grapfruit

I brewed a IIPA with all Simcoe. Way too much grapefruit.. tastes like tart grapefruit juice, not an exaggeration. I was going to dry hop w/ more Simcoe, but I can't handle any more grapefruit. What hop would be a good dry hop to counter or complement the grapefruit? Maybe something sweet...

Can you open the keg lid once beer is carbonated?

Awesome! In regards to purging the air out, I already forgot to purge when I put the beer in originally, oops, but will do so this time. And thanks for the heads up on foaming conpewter. Good to know also that someone else has added lactose to carbed beer, I have been trying to find an...

I was thinking of doing something VERY similar, think it could handle 4oz simcoe dry hopped or would that be over doing it?
