    What do I have here?

Almost looks like the beer is settling out into different specific gravities?

Minnesota 2 BIAB bags, Fermentation Chamber, Chiller, O2 kit

I'm guessing the fermentation chamber will hold a 6.5 gallon carboy? I might be interested but I'd need to see what's happening with $.

Not enough english yeast. can I add s-05 to make up the diff?

It'll probably dry it out a bit. White Labs makes a blend of WLP001 and WLP002, WLP200. According to the promo material, you might want to pitch a little more 05 than WLP002 since the WLP002 will dominate. http://morebeer.com/products/white-labs-worlds-yeast-blend.html

    Plinian IPA from NB

With IPAs I tend to do a single dry hop that's much quicker than suggested in kits. My thought with IPAs and IIPAs is they should be in bottles no later than 28 days after brewing. I think often the kits are given longer time frames than necessary simply because a lot of inexperienced brewers...

    Dry yeast in a starter?

Got it, that makes sense. Disregard my comment above!

    Dry yeast in a starter?

I was under the impression a packet of US 05 had about 69 billion yeast cells in it? The density of yeast is about 6 billion cells per gram, 11.5 grams in the packet. I'd definitely make a starter if the density is even in that ballpark.

    Plinian IPA from NB

Fantastic kit, and damn close. 1.088's going to make a pretty fundamentally different beer though, I have no idea how that'll taste. I don't think it'll be for the better. The 1.070 gravity produces a really really good beer. I wouldn't stray too far from that. As far as dry hopping, I just...

Does your primary length depend on what yeast you're using?

Thanks guys, appreciate the help! I'll probably get around to bottling on Monday.

Does your primary length depend on what yeast you're using?

I took a gravity reading at 4 days and it was pretty close to FG but lots of diacetyl so I did a rest. Sampled last night, diacetyl had dropped out and the gravity hadn't changed much.

Does your primary length depend on what yeast you're using?

Or is it pretty standard, just for consistency? I don't use secondaries anymore and I've got a stout on 1968 that seems like it's pretty well fermented and cleaned itself up after 8 days. I'm going to leave it for at least another week, but I'm wondering if I don't need to do a full month?

Terrapin Wake N' Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout

Apparently (and this is very different from many coffee stouts are being formulated now) he took the ground beans and put them at the bottom of the secondary and poured the beer over it. Great beer though, let us know how this turns out!

Has anyone ever made an IPA with no bittering hops?

Just straight up FHWing, late additions and hopback? Might give that a try soon with a friend. Any experiences?

    Brewing with coffee

I don't want to get into a pissing match about cold coffee on HBT, as I know you are right, the way you described is how most people in the coffee business do it, except for the truly high quality places that do cold brew. However, you can taste a difference. It's easier, and cheaper to do it...

Hop growing schedule and year-round growing in CA?

That's sort of what I thought, thanks! Guess we'll here more, but I suspect you're right.

Hop growing schedule and year-round growing in CA?

So I am moving to Santa Cruz in August to start school, and I'd love to start growing hops after being cooped up in NYC. I am impatient and don't want to wait for spring to start planting, so I am wondering if it's possible to successfully cultivate hops year-round in CA? Here's the temperature...

    First car-need suggestions!

(Displaying my ignorance here..) what does registration and taxes usually end up running? Obviously it varies by state. I also see you're in CA, so maybe you know something about this. A friend of mine who almost took a job in CA was told by the HR department at this company that if you...

    First car-need suggestions!

So, I'm moving to Santa Cruz in September to start grad school, and I need to buy a car. I live in NYC at the moment, so obviously I don't have a car. I'd like to spend less than 8000, which rules out new (unless Honda offers 0% financing or something crazy and I stretch my budget). I don't...

Hop Devil grill blows. Where are you staying? Barcade is fun if you can deal with all the hipsters.

What styles can you not drink?

I don't do lager. Just disgusting, even the "craft" ones.

    Most "floral" hops

Ithaca Flower Power (obviously supposed to be floral) is Simcoe, Palisades, Cascade. The Palisades and Cascade are fairly floral, not so sure about simcoe. The simcoe was probably used as bittering.
