    I miss brewing...

Lately, I have been too busy to brew. No, really. I bought a house and I'm getting married in August. SWMBO likes the homebrew and even goes with me to the Dogfishhead Alehouse and Sweetwater Tavern. I work full time and on top of that, I go to school full time. This is my first semester of...

    Do your wives get mad?

Mine is supportive. More so than my huge gaping money pit/time suck restoration of a '69 Firebird anyway.

Opening a Pub / Feedback please!

Watch Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. About 3 episodes of that show or one like it will help you understand some of the restaurant side of the house. He may be an A-hole, but he does know his stuff. Keep things simple. If I go to a bar it should be for what kind of bar it is. If you are...

    Brewpubs in Baltimore

I used to be stationed at Fort Meade and enjoyed going to DuClaw's @ Arundel Mills Mall. If you happen to be/go half an hour south of B'more, I would recommend it for some good eats, beer sampler platter, etc. Never saw a sad face in that joint. Also, slightly off subject, there is a killer...

    Need a Belgian Education

My favorite happens to be Hennepin. It's a Saison--not sure if you like the style. Majority of my beer drinking friends prefer Chimay Red.

    Best way to strain wort?

This my method. They are cheap. How I brew on my stove: Brew with about 3 gallons of wort following instructions, but always with at least 3 gallons of water. Pour the pot into my primary through the paint strainer(sanitized of course). Dump ice into my wort to hit the target temp--maybe...

    Top 10 Beer states

I can't believe that Maryland is not on there. They are one of the craft beer hubs. There are tons of great brewers in the Baltimore area. Sadly, Virginia is probably near bottom. We do have some bright and shiny brewers such as Starr Hill Brewery (haven't had a bad brew from them).

    Paulaner Oktoberfest

    Paulaner Oktoberfest

It's definitely Hallertau, I think it says it on the can. http://www.tastybrew.com/forum/thread/140322 the above link is a response from the brewmaster to some guy on another forum.

    Paulaner Oktoberfest

Been a while since I posted, but I had to share my opinion of Paulaner's Oktoberfest. What a great beer. I bought it because it was 15 bucks for a huge mug that had a can of Oktoberfest in it. I was amazed at how tasty and easy to drink it was. I haven't been able to get it out of my head...

The stupidest comment on your beer

Can you make a Coors Light?

Have you ever been stuck on one beer? (yes) Ok, which?

I'm going to have to print this out as a shopping list!

Have you ever been stuck on one beer? (yes) Ok, which?

Currently, I am completely stuck on Dogfishhead 60 min IPA. They recently started stocking at the grocery store so I don't have to go to a specialty store anymore. They have 90 min as well, but I would rather drink 6 beers vs. the 4 for the same buzz. I just like drinking beer, you know...

    Thinking of going pro

I am also interested in doing this with my BIL/co-brewer. I see a brewpub as the most cost effective route in going pro. I was also pondering the idea of having the restaurant half run by someone else. They can deal with that headache while it frees me up for the brewing half. I'm also in...

    NB extract kits

Only time I transfer is when I need a bucket with a spigot.

    how much water to boil?

What works well for me is when I do those kits, I use 3 gallons of water for the boil, dump it over about 8 lbs of ice and fill with my sink hose squirter thingie until my temp and volume are right. Doing it this way, I can get an extract done in two hours flat. You are really busy in those...
