    Testing Alcohol Tolerance

I have some yeast that I have captured and know it can make a good beer but now I want to find out its alcohol tolerance. I am planning on making a high gravity wort out of some DME and letting it ferment. After it is done fermenting is the ABV the alcohol tolerance? What should the OG be for...

How Did You Learn To Brew?

So, how did you learn to brew, how did you get into the hobby? Did you have a family member or good friend there to show you the ropes or did you have to "self-educate" and learn from your own mistakes. I know we all have made mistakes and hopefully learned from them as well, but I want to hear...

    Hooray Diacetyl!

So I brewed an Americal Pale Ale and a bitter to fill the kegerator. For both I used WLP005. I know, a British yeast in an APA but I was trying to save money. I haven't tried the bitter yet but the Pale at first had what I thought was a VERY bad yeasty bite in the aftertaste. I kegged it and...

    What's You're Highest ABV?

So I've been kicking around the idea of making a big beer, probably a barleywine. I'm just wondering what are some of the highest ABV's you have personally made? How did they taste? How long to condition?

    Any Perlick Retailers In Oregon

This is a question for my fellow Oregon brewers. Is there a store that sell Perlick faucets in Portland, Eugene or anywhere in between? I'm never too crazy about buying things online because I hate to wait or pay an arm and a leg to get it sooner. So, any actual stores/shops I can go to?

    Perlick 425 v 525 Faucets

I have decided to finally build a kegerator and have been shopping around for parts. From what I've read about faucets the Perlicks are where its at, but what I'm not sure of is the difference between the 425's and the 525's. And what about the creamer function on some is this a cool feature or...

    SMaSH Recipe Help

I have recently captured some wild yeast and would like to give it a go. I was thinking that a SMaSH recipe would be best because of the simplicity it would be easier evaluate the yeast. I would like suggestions on what to brew as I am still fairly new to brewing. I have the following hops on...

    The Importance of Glassware

Just wondering how many people find that using the correct glass for the style of beer is important. If you do use different glasses why do you find them to be superior compared to a regular pint glass or mug?

    Sam Adams Vinegar Flavor

I recently bought a mix pack of Sam Adams from Costco and there was a very noticeable cider vinegar flavor at the finish of the cream stout, old fezziwig, and winter ales. Is this intentional or did I get some foul beer? I don't drink much Sam Adams so I cant say for sure but it does seem odd.

    Unbreakable Hydrometer

Not even two weeks since I started brewing and I have broken my first hydrometer. I've searched the web for an "unbreakable" replacement without any luck. Has anyone come across an unbreakable or otherwise more resilient hydrometer?

    Hello From Oregon

I just got into brewing beer a few weeks ago and so far I am loving it. I had been wanting to try it for quite some time and ended up getting a brew kit for Christmas. Within 3 days I had 15 gal of beer going. The first two were all extract recipes using Coopers LME. That was so much fun two...
