    Stouts turning acidic

Thanks @hottpeper13 ! Would you have a reference, guide or link, for future purpose, that may indicate those proportions, ppm to g to add for each salts?

    Stouts turning acidic

Thanks @Hoochin'Fool ! And how would you measure the additions of sodium bicarbonate NaHCO₃ and calcium chloride CaCl₂ to reach the desired ions? Sorry if I don't find this obvious, as they're not on proportional proportions. And my only way to measure pH is the stripes, which I find quite...

    Stouts turning acidic

I don't see where I can set my source water to "RO/Distilled"? I'm able to see where I can find target water, but not for the source https://www.brewersfriend.com/water-chemistry/ https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/calculator

    Stouts turning acidic

Other questions: should the calcium chloride and baking soda be added DURING the mash OR the boil? does it matter?

    Stouts turning acidic

Thank you for your answers! I may have some calcium chloride around, will check into that, or figure that out. Would just need to figure out how much to add, in addition to baking soda. @bjhbrew hwo much do you usually add ? Do you add any calcium chloride as well?

    Stouts turning acidic

Hi everyone, Thank you for your input. Sorry for the delay, but as I am gearing towards brewing another one, this problem resurfaced. By pretty awesome I meant that for drinking water, for the skin... I am not able to get the chemistry details right now, but I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We...

What to add to kegerator door seal to close?

Thanks for the answer! I had in mind something like foam or similar? Would be pretty though. What do you mean what's 1x2s?

What to add to kegerator door seal to close?

Hi everyone, So I tried to arrange a kegerator to fit a 10gal keg, by taking the foam off the door. The problem is that there's still about half an inch at the end of the door that won't close. I would like to keep the fridge as is. What could I add, I'm thinking in addition to the gasket, or...

    Stouts turning acidic

Local water is pretty awesome. This is not an issue for sure, as it only happened with my stouts. I might have added a bit of salt, but often do with all my beers.

    Stouts turning acidic

Hi everyone, I'm curious to know why, as, to my surprise, googling this did not yield many obvious results, why are my stouts turning acidic. And not sour. The last 2 stouts I brewed: One where I added some Reese's puffs and some peanut butter, The other one a breakfast oat-milk and hazelnut...

Re: Lager under pressure - beer spitting out from spunding valve

So connect your gas disconnect on your fermenter to the liquid disconnect on your serving keg? I was imagining pushing Sani out of the serving keg + purging with CO2. But with my spunding valve I won't be able to do both of this at the same time. Just purging CO2... I can see that! I should try

Re: Lager under pressure - beer spitting out from spunding valve

See : Lager under-pressure - still no sign of activity. How long? For the first almost 48h, I didn't realize my post was missing an o-ring and that missing this part wouldn't allow to gas disconnect to fit properly. So gas was never going through the valve. In what vessel do you ferment? My...

Re: Lager under pressure - beer spitting out from spunding valve

I've had a lot of cleanup to do already... cleaning the spunding valve will be a piece of cake. So what, leave it build pressure, and it will eventually calm down? The gauge shows me it can sometimes go up to 20psi... wonder if I should bleed it a bit sometimes or not. I have lost quite a bit...

Re: Lager under pressure - beer spitting out from spunding valve

I read one of the advantages of fermenting under pressure is that you can ferment with an almost full to the rim fermenter and limit Krausen.

Re: Lager under pressure - beer spitting out from spunding valve

Hi everyone, So now that my spunding valve is working, and fermentation has begun, I was able to see the pressure increase. I'm fermentation a lager in a keg in an environment of about 18-19C. I want to set it between 10 and 15 psi. At that level, it seems beer is literally being spit (or some...

Lager under-pressure - still no sign of activity. How long?

Actually I found the issue : My ball lock was missing an O-ring. I had no idea it would have an effect on the fitting with the disconnect, but it definitely does. I had a spare one to use. And now it's working well! Thank you!

Lager under-pressure - still no sign of activity. How long?

I've tried taking off the gas fitting and cleaning it up, same for the gas disconnect. I've thought about taking both inner valves off, but I have a feeling like it's counter intuitive, as pressure won't build up into the sounding valve?

Lager under-pressure - still no sign of activity. How long?

Update : I moved it around tonight, as the gauge still showed 0. Checked the valve was clean, and tight. I could see bubbling at the coupler and hear a bit of sound at the gas disconnect. If I take off the valve and pulg it back in, I can also see bubbling at the base of the gas disconnect. I...
