I wonder if the lid from something else would fit this. It would be cool if you could buy a fermenter lid and use for kettle sours, or for something like Kveik. I have an anvil fermenter and a couple SsBrewtech kettles. Wonder if either of those lids would be close to fitting.

I'm pretty sure adding a pump and recirculating causes more of a temperature loss, and will therefor cycle the unit on/off more.

Interesting. My first brew with the M&B finished just like it has on my other setup. I haven't found as much of a temperature swing throughout the mash though. Sure, the unit says it swings up or down, but my readings from the top of the grainbed have been within 2 degrees for both of my brews...

My approach is to adapt to the system. You can't make it something it's not. There are many ways to make good beer. If this setup improves your brew day but only puts 4.5G in the keg... so be it. That's only 4 pints missing from the standard 5 gallon batch.

I brewed this morning with the M&B for the first time. It went great. While the controller kicked on twice and heated the mash, the top of the grain bed stayed within 1 degree the entire time for me. I checked it with a thermapen, so could only get a reading on the top few inches. I did not...

Is there a grainfather equipment profile? That would be a good place to start. I would think a simple dry run would help you set up a pretty accurate equipment profile. Just check your boil off and dead space. I usually brew a 10lb smash pale ale after any equipment changes. I use very little...

Is the Grainfather double walled also? Not familiar with it as much. I just ordered the Mash & Boil tonight. I am already considering different ways to both insulate and recirculate.

Perk of not having dip tube I guess. My hunch is that a diptube won't fit with Mash tube in place, but I have no idea. I am very interested in this as well. I'd have bought it already if it was a PID controller.
