I too have fallen victim to Cranberry Wine...

It worked! That reverse pitch thing got it going. Had to split it into 2 buckets to avoid Any over night explosion. Lol

I too have fallen victim to Cranberry Wine...

I too have started this "reverse pitch" process tonight. I don't have ph strips, coming tomorrow. My gravity is at 1.09, thats after adding about a gallon of water, was up at 1.13 before that. I wet pitch all my yeast so I know it was working when I put it in. Think it's just a case of fresh...

I too have fallen victim to Cranberry Wine...

I keep reading how hard it is to get fresh cranberries to ferment, and I just keep hoping my batch will take off with each little fix I try. I started it a week and a half ago, a 5-gallon batch. I am not near my recipe right now so I cant list that out, but so far no action. I added more water...

It was all added at the same time, just following the recipe. seems to be doing good now, still gassy, but gravity is down. Thanks.

    Cider- white flecks on top?

I did all my research and think I found that others think this could be campten tab leftovers, but I don't know. I have racked this 3 times. The last time I noticed the film on top and decided to rerack to check and remove headspace to see if I could clear it up, I added a bottle of homemade...

    So much gas!

Started my second batch of mead on December 5th, 5 gallons. Used a brew bucket and stirred daily, the first day it even erupted over and made a mess. I didn't want it to sit in the air forever so I moved it to a carboy on December 12. In the process, at the half-full point, I used the wine...

Blackberry wine- SG went from 1.130 to off the scale!!

yes, it's a 6 gallon batch. Well, more now because I removed some and added water to bring the SG to 1.1 or so. It is still happy. And I now have a 2-3 gallon batch on the side.

Blackberry wine- SG went from 1.130 to off the scale!!

Update- I added 5 quarts of water, which helped bring it down a little.

Blackberry wine- SG went from 1.130 to off the scale!!

Started a new batch of wine this last weekend (recipe below) and forgot to take the SG for a day. Decided it would be the wrong number but wanted to know anyway so I took it a day after the yeast was added. Well, it is very active and I am getting ready to leave for the weekend so I was giving...

Mead stopped at 1.030 almost 3 months in, what can I do?

good news, I repitched the yeast and I am seeing a little more action. So now I am more comfortable waiting it out. I will probably take a gravity reading in a few days just to make sure and eventually take it off the dead yeast. Would agitating it now that its going again be a good idea, or...

Mead stopped at 1.030 almost 3 months in, what can I do?

A couple of dashes of Fermax yeast nutrient and a dash of Tap Craft yeast energizer.

Mead stopped at 1.030 almost 3 months in, what can I do?

I pitched new yeast and some nutrients, no new action. I will wait it out and see what happens. May have to start all over. :(

Mead stopped at 1.030 almost 3 months in, what can I do?

I was working on two brews at the same time, the tablets were for the other brew. My mistake,

Mead stopped at 1.030 almost 3 months in, what can I do?

Started my first batch of mead on 1/31, 5 gallons. Used EC-1118 yeast, also had sliced oranges in the primary. It did really well at first and I stirred it every day. When I took it off the oranges, my recipe had me add orange juice, this made it active again. It slowed way down, but here is...

    Watermelon Wine Woes

Thanks for the info. They were huge watermelons actually and we didn't add any water. It is a tad fizzy to the mouth so I thought aerating it might help, but why would it still be so sweet after 5 months? Maybe the yeast just didn't have enough nutrients in there to be happy. our recipe was...

    Watermelon Wine Woes

I have read up on what others have said about watermelon wine being easy to spoil, but no one mentioned time frames or gravity. Today we reracked the 5-gallon batch that we used the fresh pulp of 5 melons in. We started it in September 2020, and it was super active and blew its top and...
