I brewed a favorite recipe today

Charlie Papazian had toasted malted barley in a number of his recipes. I learned to brew with his New Complete Joy of Homebrewing. Put the whole grains in the oven for 10 min. at 350F. After toasting, grains are cracked and steeped. I'm not sure it actually does much for the beer, but your...

I brewed a favorite recipe today

I brewed a favorite recipe today. Today I brewed Peter Cotton Ale, my IPA recipe, but with changes. I first brewed this in 2007, and I've done it fifteen times since then. I like the beer, but I had decided it wasn't very "IPAish." This was decided as part of my exploration of using a...

I use Artisan Label Making Paper: 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of gummed paper for about $8.00 for 18 sheets. I print 9 labels on a sheet. I almost always only do 9 labels per batch.

    Recipe thoughts

Why are you making "some kind of stout" without roasted barley? The taste of roasted barley practically defines stout. You're just making some kind of dark ale.

    What should I brew next?

Label Peelers carries Muntons cheaper, but they somnetimes don't have product. Right now, for instance, you can get 3lbs of Mutons amber for 13.99 from Home Brew Ohio. Label Peelers is out of 3lb. bags, but has one lb. for 4.57 which is only 12.71 for 3 lbs. Their 3 lbs would go for 12.08, if...

I brewed a favorite recipe today

I brewed a favorite recipe today. I brewed my JB Gold recipe that was designed to show off John Bull extract and East Kent Goldings and Stryian Goldings. John Bull extract hasn't been around for a while and and now you mostly find Celeia instead of Stryian Goldings. I don't know why I found...

    orange zest?

I think it would be good enough, but I'm sort of casual about some stuff. Another option: Make a tea by boiling the peel in water. I've done this to add lemon zest to gingermead. Idon't see why it wouldn't work for oranges.
