    5 gal. Rubbermaid large enough?

I purchased a 7 gal RubberMaid from day one along with a false bottom. Total invested was about $56 us. I have brewed low and high gravity 5 and 10 gallon batches with it. 1) a 10 gal cost is average $70 us and is over kill. 2) efficiancy comes from the mill process not the rest step...

SG frequency - my simplistic approach

Like JKoravos, I too monitor my brew closely. Keep in mind, once your target FG is sustained, you need to "condittion" the brew. This done best by racking to a secondary because any trub and or cold break will be left behind when racking. Once out of the primary, the yeast cake can be recovered...

Racking to carboy through CFC with no March pump

I have icorporated lids from a supplier wich have a second air tight lid. With the use of stainless steel tire valve, i apply vaccum to the fermentor bucket and transfer wort. Interesting approach we all have taken to this situation.

    Ball Lock or Pin Lock

I recently was awarded some unused equipment from work, two cornelius "pin-lock" 5 gallon kegs. Allthough I cannot determine wich is better for my beer dispensing, ( as both styles are used for soda originally at 30 + psi ), maybe this topic will enlighten me. Ball lock or Pin lock ?

    My $30 hopback

Good form in your build, congrats on your success. I wish to add to your design by the incorporation a pressure relief valve in the lid. As you mentioned the "positive pressure" issue, the light came on as to eliminate the little leak. A 5# vavle like in a prerssure cooker lid should aid in...

http://http://www.franklin-electric.com/wastewater/little-giant-wastewater/specialty/circulator/579200.aspx This seems to be an appropioate product for homebrew transfer pump, as an alternate to the March 809 series.

    An efficiency observation....

Smizak, what have you learned? seems to me you are making a mole hill into a mountain. Your grain bill did not compensate for your losses, excuse my bluntness but thats the reality. Often newcomers to all grain did not research this fact. In reality, a tested true recipe performed exactly, does...

    An efficiency observation....

Your loos of liquid condenses the wort to a higer number wich is the FG target for Post Boil. If you mesure after lautering you are mesuring the gravity of wort @ pre boil thus the number should be 4-6 % lower than target FG.

    Brew Day 2.19.09

Well it is update time, and here is the final product is kegged and force carbing @ 34* and 12 psi. The fermentaion stopped after 4 days or at least to crawl, so I racked it to secondary until 2.02.09. A total of 12 days has past and then racked it to kegg. The FG was 1.006 for an ABV of 4.6...

Help with Problem - Efficiency Issue

Too much head space, all your heat escapes to the air gap in your cooler, 7 #'s of grain is too small for such a large cooler to be efficiant. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you need to do 12 #'s or more in that set up. Your current cooler is not out of the picture all together, use it...
