    Irish Ale Aroma?????

I just brewed 10 gallons of an Irish Stout. In one carboy, I put WLP02 (English) and in the other, I put WLP04 (Irish). This is the first time I have used WLP04 and it has a poor aroma. I can't put my finger on the exact smell, but I don't really like it. The weird thing is that I like the...

    Info on Symphony Hops

Thanks MMB. He had mentioned that they are a bittering hop, but I didn't know what AA they were. The cones appear fairly small relative to the ones that I grow in my back yard (Cascade, Chinook and Wilamette). I am not sure what grower he got them from but the Prosser area is loaded with...

    Info on Symphony Hops

I have looked around on the web and done some searches but cannot find information out on symphony hops. My cousin from Prosser, WA gave me about 4lbs of hops form the drying plant and said that they are symphony hops. Does anyone know anything about these? Estimated alpha?

One Stunted PLant - Need suggestions

All of my plants are first year plants. I have one chinook, one Wilamette, one Horizon, and one Cascade. All are doing better than I expected except for the Horizon. The three good ones are about 15 feet tall. The Horizon is about 4 feet and slightly yellow. It took quite a bit longer for...

    American Wheat Beer American Wheat

I have been working on a recipe very similar to this but using cascade hops. Also, I have been using the White labs American Hefe yeast (320). So far, I really like it. I am trying to get it dialed in before summer. I have not thought about using Munich, but I like the idea. I may have to...

    Specialty Grain Storage

I am sure that I am not the first person to come up with this, but I was digging through our cuppboard this last weekend and found the round vacuum canisters that came with our FoodSaver. I have never found a use for them until now. They work great for storing specialty grains. I only had...

Need Help Converting to All Grain

Thanks so far guys. The only info that I have is that the OG is supposed to be 1.053 and a FG of 1.015-1.018. I made it a while back from extract and really liked it. And yes, it was really dark. It is supposed to be an American Porter.

Need Help Converting to All Grain

I am trying to convert an extract recipe to all grain. The trick is that in the extract recipe is that it calls to steep some grains for 20 minutes. When I put this into beersmith, I think it assumes that I am mashing these grains. Am I making this too complicated? Can you guys help me out...

    Dry Hopping disaster.....grrrrr

I went through this a week ago. It drove me crazy too. The hops were all throughout the keg. When I went to keg it, I put the racking cane and siphon tube into the carboy as normal. I then put the hop bag on the outlet of the siphon tube. It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

    Wheat question

I have done a few wheat beers for my last brews and did not notice what you are describing. A couple of differences. My grain bills have more wheat (50-60% wheat). Also, I do not use Irish moss for hefes (I want them cloudy). Sorry I am not more help.

US 2-Row Substitute for UK 2-Row

I am new to all grain and have a lot of US 2-Row Pale. The recipe that I would like to try calls for UK 2-Row Pale (Mac N Jack clone). How much of a flavor difference will there be if I use the US 2-Row?

    Can you secondary prematurely

OK, sorry to start this mess, I thought it was a simple question:D. I decided yesterday to leave it in there an borrow a 6.5 carboy from a buddy. If that hadn't worked out, I think I would have probably transferred it. I can see all of the points made here, but tend to think that it can't...

    Can you secondary prematurely

at work and typing from a phone. don't have time to do a search, sorry. My hefe has been in the primary for 6 days and is still fermenting a little. I need the carboy that it is in (6.5 g). Am I going to hurt the beer by transferring to the secondary after only 6 days?

Loading up on Hops - What Kind to Get?

OK, so I am not going to go into details, but I have a connection to get lots of hops for a GREAT deal (almost free). (it is all legal, I promise). My question is, what type should I get? I am kinda new to brewing and don't have a lot of experience with different hops. I am looking for a...
